Probably the best in rugby. Seems to care about exam results more than its students. Pastoral department is caring but doesn't seem to believe in bullying beyond verbal racism and physical violence. The culture of the management seems to be very self protecting choosing to cover up problems instead of addressing them. The safety and security is very poor. The school lacks any kind of lockdown alarm and the singular drill in the last 5 years was performed by telling the students to respond to the fire alarm by locking down instead of evacuating at a specific time they had been told in advance. An actual fire could have had disastarous consequences.
Really good school and very high standard of teaching as well as generally good atmosphere, although the pastoral department's handling of bullying cases is not good and the facilities could do with some investment and tlc. Probably the best state school in Northern Warwickshire which is no surprise given that it's a grammar school. Would highly recommend for lower school and sixth form.
The school is fairly considering the location. The pastoral team are good at dealing with sickness and things but when it comes to bullying it seems that they don’t understand the concept of it since it’s an all boys school. The staff are friendly and kind. Sometimes it feels they care more about your uniform than your mental health though. Additionally, there are 6 periods in a day which doesn’t seem like too many but it’s hard to switch between lessons so quickly.
Deserves praise, but could make slight adjustments
For a school in rugby, LSS really does stand out as one of the best. The standard of education is very high, as are the quality of lessons. The teachers are incredibly talented, and will not hesitate to help you in or out of lessons. The pastoral department is brilliant, and I cannot praise it highly enough. However, there is room for improvement in some aspects of the school, namely the food quality and the safeguarding strategies. Firstly, the food. For meals costing between £2 and £3, the quality is reasonable, however I believe that it is the common opinion of students that the food is sometimes overpriced, as is the case with many secondary school canteens. Secondly, the safeguarding strategies. These can include (for an actively dangerous situation) teachers/senior leadership remaining outside of classrooms in order to pass on messages, instead of using the available technology. For fire drills, the students are expected to line up outside the school, away from any buildings. This does, however, cause issues. Due to the design of the school, there are 'choke points', where hordes of students get caught up while moving to the fire assembly points. This makes the teachers' jobs much harder, as they have to make sure that people keep orderly and sensible, but also silent. A better way to evacuate buildings should be considered when the new science block is completed. Aside for those 2 points, the school is a generally great place to learn, and deserves to be praised.
Decent school, would recommend considering it is a grammar school and most of the teachers are decent. Pastoral department is ok but doesn't Understand the concept of bullying in context of an all boy's secondary school. You actually learn stuff if you try because a decent amount of the teachers care.
