For a school that regularly gets "outstanding" they do a very poor job of managing bad behaviour among the students. My son is constantly bullied with damage to his bag/uniform and the school does nothing to punish those responsible or prevent reoccurrence.
The school itself with the education is quite good. The teachers are alright. The support assistance.. not so much. Supply teachers are the worst. Food is so bad. Burnt leftovers every day.
I’m a current Student at landau, and i have struggled so much with bullying.I have been stolen from before and i’ve had to move forms a lot.The school turns a blind eye each time i report what happens. The only teachers who Care Are the deputy Head and Head of year 8 Currently (Miss Spencer and Miss Bracomonte) But even then they can’t do much. The school gives a lot of great opportunities but the mental health of this place is falling apart. The school always says that they are the best school in derby, and while that is true for grades and work, It is definitely not true for mental Health.
horrible school tbh, wouldn’t recommend at all, just constant bullies no matter what year if not even a teacher, refused to go to the bathroom if you didnt have a medical condition or smth, so strict with everything but dont seem to care about racism or sexism and constantly do it thereselves.. anyways i seriously dont get the hype at all
Amazing school, with amazing staff and students. I have worked in a number of schools and Landau Forte is a cut above the rest. Very well organised and welcoming . How a school should be ran
As a parent I have been very disappointed by the attitude of senior staff, especially the headteacher. They are only concerned about appearing to be an outstanding school at the expense of the mental health of pupils and teachers. Moreover children with additional challenges are sent off on alternative programs never to return….
Reading the previous reviews here - there’s obviously someone with an agenda! Several of the reviews have parts identically worded. Rival school perhaps?
I don’t recognise the Landau described here. No school is perfect, but this one is continually aiming to do the best for its students.
while the educational experience is renowned to be ‘the best in derby’, the school fails to deal with the wellbeing of its students. slurs are thrown around very often and the teachers seem to turn a blind eye. bullying cases are easily overlooked, for the school tends to care more for grades instead of the happiness of its students. furthermore, there is a clear sexism issue in their sports field. the girls are made to participate in gymnastics and dance, but they’re not allowed to play football or rugby like the boys are. furthermore, in some events, the girls are made to wear cheerleading/netball dresses, while the boys are allowed to wear normal p.e. kit.
Whilst I attended landau, I would constantly hear slurs being casually used in the corridors and nasty comments being made about other students regarding their Sexuality, Gender or Race. Despite the fact that the school had posters plastered everywhere preaching about how much they supported LGBTQ+ and were against racism and the zero tolerance policy the school allegedly had; teachers would fail to deal with situations appropriately or even sometimes not at all, and some teachers essentially gaslighted students who were the victims of bullying. Teachers would also preach about how we are 'the best school in Derby' and seemed to care more about maintaining their crystal clear reputation than students' well-being. This lack of regard for students'well-being and mental health has been made apparent through the years by the disgusting attitudes and behaviours of some teachers and their poor attempts to deal with situations. Although the school delivers education in an effective way,the environment is poor and there is certainly room for lots of improvement.
In terms of grade outcomes, it's decent, but it's an extremely toxic environment to be in. Over the past few years I have been at this school, I have noticed an increasing amount of Homophobia, Transphobia, Misogyny, Ableism and Racism. I constantly hear slurs being casually used in the corridors and nasty comments being made about other students regarding their Sexuality, Gender or Race. The worst part about all of this is that the teachers do next to nothing about this unacceptable behaviour despite the fact that they have posters plastered everywhere preaching about how much they accept LGBTQ+ and support Black lives matter. The truth is, they do not support people as much as they should, and all of this preaching is just performative activism which is absolutely useless in fighting against the pure ignorant and prejudice behaviours exhibited by people. Landau claims to have a 'zero tolerance' policy which on multiple occasions has been proven to be false as teachers fail to deal with situations appropriately and sometimes at all. An incident occurred recently where a trans student's dead name was put on several lists for all to see, informing students where to go for their exams- this may have been a careless mistake, but as we all know, deadnaming a trans person is extremely transphobic and harmful. When the student made a complaint, the principal replied with a half hearted apology and didn't seem to really care about the effects this irresponsible mistake had on the student. Another major flaw the school has and has always had is that the teachers constantly remind us that Landau is the 'best school in derby' and some of them seem to care more about maintaining that reputation than guiding and helping students.
The school is fine, subjects are OK and give you probably all that you need. Because the school is "number one in Derby" (the teachers won't let you forget that) that's all they care about, so don't think that some (definitely not all) teachers will deal with your problems. Socially, it can get very toxic like alot of other schools but that's probably expected
the head teacher removed most posters about lgbtq+ awearness, some of the teachers are rude, transphobic or homophobic and the head teacher does nothing about it. the teachers don't resolve problems properly and don't really think about the students other than about what grades they get, their uniform or how they behave in class.
