This isn't a school. It's a prison. The teachers can't teach and expect you to do well so you have to spend all of your time revising. You gets millions of pieces of homework which completely fill your time leaving no time to relax or breathe. The only thing getting people through the school is each other. If u have no friends then gl. Some of the teachers actually put effort in like my history, Geography, Spanish and science. They actually can teach.
Unfortunately I cannot highly recommend this school. It’s good if you want to go to Cambridge and you get perfect scores. However, if you’re a bit different you will feel trampled.
I worked very hard and yet my mental health was in the toilet. No one helped me properly it was all about exams and nothing else. I wasn’t diagnosed as autistic at the time and didn’t get the extra help I needed.
The headmistress is nice and so are most of the teachers. However, you are being taught to note things down like a copier machine (probably more of an issue with the system at large). If you learn differently you won’t be accommodated.
The school should be there for ALL its girls. Not just the ones who are good at spewing up mark schemes. The mental health stuff REALLY needs an overhaul.
One of my relatives has personally worked with girls from this school who have crippling mental illness from the pressure. Some have been borderline suicidal.
It’s a shame because somewhere prestigious should know and do better. However all that seems to matter is the bottom line.
There’s a creepy teacher. but the school doesn’t seem to notice / care.
You’re made to feel inferior or stupid if you’re not a grade7/8/9/A* student. A grade 5/6/B is still decent and can get you into a levels/uni. Too much focus on grades - and exam factory.
Some TeAchers are really discouraging and unreasonableZ
The teaching recieved in maths/science/English/ often bad
Many girls suffer from mental health issues due to the environment of the school
I am a current student at this school In ks4 and in my time here I have recieved no help whatsoever from any teacher apart from one new spanish teacher who I lovely and actually noyices when you need time out of class but a certain two science teachers biology and physics are awful the physics teacher is the worst they get at you got anything point out any imperfections in you and the biology teacher is a suspected pedo upon the students .the pastoral staff do their best to contain the amount of students needing support in different ways bet cant actually help in any way. Overall pretty poor school for your mental stability but decent for grades
Literally a terrible school. Caters to the privileged middle class. If you’re not a private tutored middle class kid then many teachers will treat you like you are stupid.
Jackie loves these perfect twee rich girls with no personality who’ve been tutored to the hilts. Most of the teachers can’t teach, & girls only get good grades due to their own dedication & tutoring. A string of grade 9s, means nothing in the real world.
It’s unreal how much undeserved classism I got from teachers.
I can’t describe the hatred I have for this school. Abolish all grammar schools but especially this one.
Really nice environment for learning everyone is willing to learn and work hard and you get through a lot in the lessons.
Students are very friendly not many rude people, except a few can be very nasty but not the fault of the school. However, many students don’t feel like the school will take action against other students bullying them (due to past events) which is why they don’t tell the pastoral staff.
Teachers push you to do well, they try to help you in class and it’s easy to talk to them privately if you need help with class work. Also quite understanding of homework, they never give you homework to hand in next day.
Quite competitive between students which can be a good and bad thing
The competitiveness helps you to strive to do better as everyone is achieving good grades however also makes you quite stressed and pressure to do well (which as well can be a good and bad thing)
They give detentions for things such as ear piercings which is very unfair and silly
Also teachers sometimes don’t take action against racism, Islamaphobia and they are quick to make assumptions regarding certain pupils of a certain colour and race although I have noticed they are trying to make changes by listening to pupils suggestions regarding teachers to have a wider understanding of sexuality, gender, race and religion.
Food selection is ok, quite standard for secondary school. Good options for vegetarians, and at break they have great breakfast food such as hash browns, toast, bacon butties.
Would recommend the school to anyone who wants to work hard in a good school which will give you lots of opportunities.
the grades we get overall are good because it's a grammar school, but the reason is because of the amount of pressure put onto us, eg lots of students' parents pressure them a lot to get in then get really good grades and that has an effect on mental health, aswell as the fact a 6 which is a B is viewed as bad and the teachers act as if 6s are almost like a 3/4. Many students struggle with mental health issues, me and all of my friends here have struggled/ are struggling with somewhat severe problems and the ones who have gone to teachers here have either not had any help at all, or bad help .eg being outed to parents for being lgbt. The pastoral team aren't good either they tell us that we can go to them with problems but from what i've experienced a little and heard from others it isn't as good as they tell us. There's also not an adequate amount of s3x ed being done, it may be an awkward subject to cover for us but it's needed a lot more and a little earlier. They should teach us about our bodies even if it's embarrassing. It's a good school and there's other schools that are a lot worse off than us but improvements should be made to the school system in general.
As a gcse student, I’m really struggling and I don’t feel any help coming from any of the teachers. Everyone is obsessed with grades not with trying your best and working hard. I can barely keep myself from breaking down. My mental health and my intelligence have both decreased being there. Over all, it’s not too bad but it’s fun.
It’s a great school and you get taught well but if you struggle, it isn’t great to get help. All they will do is repeat it. The teachers mainly teach to listen not teach to understand. At the moment, school is all about a grade not about trying your best or working hard. It’s alright but it’s damaging to my mental health
Teachers are all super caring to the students! As it is a grammar school, we do get challenged but only to the best of our ability and beyond. they respect us and we respect them! lovely grounds and rooms, excellent music department! would definitely reccomend!
