honestly, this school seemed good when i started, but as you spend more years in this place you realise how bad it is. Teachers say they care about mental health and education but really it’s the least of their worries. The uniform is their main and only concern, I understand that kilts get rolled up and fair enough, but for example trainers, honestly doesn’t matter. Some students have money problems and don’t need the teachers breathing down the students neck every morning is unneeded. Honestly the uniform is the main concern towards the students, they say mental health is the main issue but it is completely untrue. If anyone questions it either an immediate detention or negative when you are not even being rude towards the teachers. Another issue is 60 or 30 minute detention for having their kilt rolled up, and having your kilt rolled up is not a new issue it has been happening even before parents have gone there.Pupils get bullied and completely inappropriate comments towards other students and the teachers don’t do anything about it, just brush it off. Some teachers will even make inappropriate comments towards how short some pupils kilts are, it’s not a teachers place to make those comments towards a student, AT ALL.
Teachers even put students in isolation all day for uniform. Teachers couldn’t care less about situations with pupils in school and out of school. Honestly, if i knew the school was like this, I wouldn’t have come.
Average school but needs improvement like make better food and meals, let girls do basketball and rugby, get more comfortable chairs and don’t make such a big deal on school uniform, let students modify it but only to a certain level of course.
My experiences at king James have been alright so far. The amount of sexist, racist jokes in the classroom that just get passed off as banter is unbelievable. A plus is that the cookies are nice. As a sporty student, I feel like I have a good opportunity for sports but there aren’t many opportunities for other people. The instagram is sexist. All that’s posted on it is that fact that the boys football team has won a match whereas there are many girls who competed in national finals/or are playing at a very high level who don’t get any recognition at all. All the teachers care about is girls uniforms and boys football (or at least what I think they care about as a sporty girl). By forcing students not to express themselves by their jewellery, uniform ect. many students feel the need to ‘rebel’ against the teachers which doesn’t create a good learning environment. The teachers say that they want a good relationship with the students but this whole ordeal about school uniform is breaking all good relationships. If you ask me, I would say that the school went downhill when the new head started. There is a lot of stress in exams. My year 7 friend said that she was getting bullied by a year 10 for how she looks. This is not acceptable. One of our teachers were assaulted by a student from another school who entered the premises before 3:15. A knife from DT was stolen and the school security increased massively (they found it). It’s an alright school but needs to be improved. All of my friends agree
Absolutely terrible. Major events have occurred and they were never really resolved and tucked away! And I don’t know how some people became a pastoral officers because they’re sending more kids to a mental institution than actual lessons, long story short this school is a one way ticket to a prison sentence or to a student hanging like a Christmas ornament. You’re better off sending your kid to jeffery Epsteins island than this place x
If your child struggles with mental health, do not send them here. Staff that deal with mental health stuff including head of years did not know what they were doing whatsoever. No help given at all regarding it.
This school is horrific dealing with mental health problems, if your child deals with any mental health problems do not send them here. Also bad experiences with teachers and head of years.
I’ve enjoyed my time at king James so far I’m looking forward to starting year nine, and the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead. Most of the teachers I have had so far are very helpful and give Great advice to improving my education. Sometimes I can’t focus though due to some teachers are not strict enough of the students and it gets out of control. So overall I enjoy my time at king James!
Avoid King James's - it's not a safe place for kids.
This is a school that needs to seriously review how it handles its own policies.
From what should be simple, e.g., the dress code to the more complicated e.g., Anit-bullying.
King James's school fails spectacularly on almost all of its policies, at worst leaving its pupils open to ongoing abuse.
school is full of prejudiced students. very common to hear homophobic and racist things said directly towards other students, in the presence of teachers and yet nothing gets done. all the school cares about is academics, sports and funding. there is no extra curricular activities unless you are good at sport, students with other interests get left behind. sixth form is awful as well. don’t be fooled by the new building it’s tiny as the school just cram as many students as they can for funding. the toilets are bad too as locks never work and it never gets fixed. also had many instances of sexual assault. don’t send your children here.
The teachers do not care about all the outright gross jokes made in classrooms, prejudice from students is seen as a “just get over it” moment, and they do NOT care about any bullying, but the cookies are nice. We have a good reputation but our average grades aren’t great.
Probably one of the worst schools in the district. Currently a year 10 student as of March 2021, getting NO help from teachers in lessons. Only one or two nice teachers left. School is ran by the students and the amount of bullying going on is awful. Homophobic and racist students get let off every single time. Appalling. Do NOT send your children here.
I used to go to this school and left in year 9 in 2017 because I got bullied so much ending up in hospital each time my pastoral officer didn’t want anything to do with it so he took me to a room with no one around and said “if you don’t like it here then just leave” I’m still upset about the situation till this day. If you want your child to have a bright future then please take elsewhere!!!
