This nursery used to be outstanding. My eldest three children have all thrived here. My fourth is being taken out because I do not think it is nurturing or safe. It has gone very quickly downhill with a new management team who seem totally out of their depth. Children are viewed as predictable, homogenous subjects for experiments and academic interests rather than young human individual beings. Parents are constantly patronised and told what their child has done wrong that day but rarely are any positives mentioned. I was extremely stressed and anxious and made myself very I’ll because I thought I was being told that my child was abnormal in some way with extreme behaviour. Thank goodness I compared notes with several other parents who all report the same experiences. Occurrence of behavioural disorders on the scale being suggested is statistically highly improbable. Children are labelled and do not easily shake off those labels. All feedback about children starts with the impact on staff, who presumably knew when they embarked on a childcare career that they would need to work with children who are not always rational, measured or reasonable. When my baby didn’t settle to an induction session, I was called to collect her. I turned into an emotional wreck as a result, worrying how I could return to work after maternity leave. Day after day being told how badly it was all going. This would never have happened under previous management. Such a shame. It was an excellent nursery. It is now unacceptably poor.
