Don’t let the new buildings in a salubrious area persuade you in anyway that this is a good school. I implore any parent considering an application to HTA to consider any other option first. Those of you thinking about convenience and kidding yourselves that it ‘can’t be that bad’ are doing your children a huge disservice. If you find yourself tempted to apply just check its academic performance. The horror stories are true.
I would say that Holy Trinity Academy is an ‘alright’ school if you take the pupils out of the building. The systems that are in place work well and the staff are very obliging. It’s the pupils that cause all the bother. The students these days have no discipline and believe they have the right to object to every aspect of how the school is run. Of course, it does have its faults but then no school is perfect.
The only point that I would raise is on the topic of the Maths & Science teachers. I don’t know what it is about those subjects in particular but they seem to make all of the teachers in said department’s extremely agitated. The students do prat-around, of course they do, that’s what students do and in other schools, they’re jokes are laughed off but not here, oh no! Comedy is a no-go zone for this school.
On the whole, as a soon-to-be-former student, this school functions well (on the whole) but is nothing to write home about.
I can’t even with this school, to the point where I left after 4 days to go to a new school. Let that sink in. I don’t care how desperate you are for a school like we were, you are sentencing your child to 5-7 years of misery.
Much love
this school is absolutely vile and mentally draining to say the least, you do one thing wrong and bam that’s a 2 hour detention. you have no breaks throughout the day apart from a 30 minute lunch and you HAVE to eat your food within 10 minutes or get booted out. the “SLT” are there to “support” you but if you go to them about anything they turn the tables and make you feel like the victim. the school is manipulating and all round horrible. it gives so students the chance to express themselves as a person and has no leeway. i understand schools are strict for reasons and because the eye of the public but this school is really something i’ve never seen before. it caused me to leave before getting into year 9 and made me so self conscious. the teachers are the worst thing about the school. they bully you of your looks, weight, financial stability. i once had one teacher ask me “if i even have a sofa to sit on” i replied with “yes ofc i do” and she laughed in my face. i suffered with acne at the time and had one teacher nickname me “pepperoni” the school is not nice and i recommend any student considering going NOT TO! may i add the school is very religious and very RACIST i may not go into that but please this is a heads up for any student and parent
I attended this school two years ago. When I was there got the impression that it did not care about it students at all. There were multiple instances where people in my year group had gone forward to complain about racism or bullying and the school did not properly deal with it, simply putting students in isolation, or having other teachers chasticise students for complaining about it. In terms of teachers I would say that the majority of the teachers are very passionate about their job and they work hard specifically the history and English department, however as typical of most schools, there are a couple of teachers who don’t. I think academically the school is fulfilling but I think that staff has a tendency to be unnecessarily mean and condescending to students and the senior department don’t seem to care about the opinion or needs of students. I remember there was one instance where three weeks before our GCSE exam the senior staff had decided to switch all of our English classes around which caused a lot of stress for us all including our English teachers and another instance where moments before we enters the hall for an exam our year were told by a senior member of staff that we weren’t good enough and were the worst year 11 they’d had. I also think a lot of the time the senior department failed to communicate with staff and students in school. As well as this, I understand the schools wish to have firm rules, however a lot of the time they are overly strict- One student being put in isolation during the week of a mock exams because their trousers had back pockets, or being threatened with isolation and detentions if your trousers showed your ankles. I came out of this school with a very good set of GCSE results however I was also very emotionally drained by my experience there.
This is an incredible school! Ive been there since year 7 (now nearly leaving) and I’ve never had an issue! Always been well supported with my work and the teachers all clearly want the best from you! I’m religious so this school is perfect for me but if you aren’t religious you will be expected to either join in with morning prayer or try to be respectful. My brother is SEND and he’s had excellent support from that point of view.
It’s all round a good school but it’s more focused on students grades rather than their mental health. there is also an overwhelming amount of homework and students often complain about this but get told that they don’t get set enough. there’s also barely any response to bullying or racism or homo/transphobia and the only punishment is getting put in isolation. the teachers also penalise late students by saying they should be more prepared or for instance when i got counselling they asked me where i was despite knowing previously i was having sessions and forcing students to say where they were in front of the class when they were told that information about their sessions would be kept confidential.
