I am a former student at this school and can tell you what has occurred over the last few years. Other reviews that are positive about the school are old from the old head teacher. The new one implemented an app called class charts yet this however, just gives you goody and baddy points. Certainly the right thing for year 11's at 16 years of age. They mean nothing and basically allow students to bully and harass without getting punished making the whole system stupid. There is no strive to be well behaved because they don't reward students. Well behaved/passive students will receive less 'behaviour points' because they are consistently well behaved yet the 'naughty kids' actually receive for just not being as annoying on one day. Yet they treat you the same if you innocently forget your P.E kit and homework, if not worse, than the naughty kids.
Overall, there is punishment for hard work and rewards for not being as naughty.
This school is absolutely terrible if you are about to take your child here change your mind save yourselves!!! Teachers say they’ll do something make it sound amazing when they don’t do a thing they say absolute rubbish school I moved so much happier now helston school is absolute trash the uniform makes you look like a office worker litterally the blazers are so irratating you can’t focus in school because your uniform is horrible and there are about 3 nice teachers there not impressed WARNING: DO NOT GO HELSTON SAVE YOURSELVES!!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!
Almost died by getting pushed in the thin part of the link path, getting help makes you feel like an alien and chavs are everywhere. Consequence cards are the worst thing and god forbid you misplace it because that will get you a behaviour point. Teachers don’t care especially about engagement in lessons and IT lessons make no sense. Bullying is not dealt with properly and the food is expensive. Crowds are everywhere and nobody really cares about what is best for the students. Don’t send your kids here
Have tried to work with this school for the greater good, but only ever provided with lip service.
No one ever does what they say they will & then act like this should be completely acceptable as a parent.
I would go as far to say, that there are a core of teachers that nothing more than vindictive, bullies, that lack any real skill of being able to unlock children's engagement &/or potential.
It is far easy to write a child of as naughty than to actually find a way to engage their learning .
My daughter has to a couple of days off school every month because of her treatment towards using the toilet. I find it immensely sad, that a young lady has to overly concerned by her menstrual cycle because of her treatment by teachers.
I would seriously consider this before sending your child here, it is rotten to the core and if you experience problems, don't expect them to be resolved.
School was terrible when I went. Only a couple good teachers and the best ones have either left or died.
Canteen could literally give you cancer with how processed all the food was. Only enjoyed music, food tech and science. English teacher was a legend though, props to him.
Although they set maths,English and science work when the 1st half of the year only had maths and the 2nd half only had maths and science. No one had english. Ita pointless setting it. We only did the classes we had that day.
this place is horrible. the teachers are awful, the students are awful and the building is an eye-sore. there are about 2 PSA’s that are lovely and there are loads of staff that don’t teach. and these people don’t get paid enough. if we told people to work their wage then no staff would come in. and the poor janitors have such a hard time cleaning up after students and their mess. don’t get me started on how lovely the canteen staff are to everyone.
Ok so I was just chilling in school and they're like "my g you need some therapy" so I go on my way to the blues program with my mates. I thought they wanted to help us but nah we're Guinea pigs. They promised they wouldn't look through the folders we wrote but they are. This school and that blues program are LYING. My g's run while you still can. The therapist's gonna turn into scooby doo so before I go I gotta say-
The fact that there is a program called “blues program” is a good sight that the college is not a very nice place to be AND on top of that, the children (including me) who go to the program are being used as”guinea pigs” to see if the program is good or not even more about this topic, the kids are dangerous as in threats and physical assaults
This school is hell on earth
Do not go to this school unless you want to end up with a mental illness
This school actually makes you want to off yourself seriously
There are so many bullies
Just don't go unless you want to be traumatised
Disgusting School - Should be shut down immediately.
Absolutely terrible school. The students are extreme bullies, and are never dealt with no matter how much you report to pastoral.
Oh god, don't get me started on the pastoral. They do practically nothing for you. You can report bullying and they do nothing about it. They'll say they'll talk to the offending students, but nothing is EVER done about it.
The teachers. Ohhh lord the teachers. Some of them are nice enough, but others are absolutely horrid. They yell at you, send you to parking, for NOTHING. They don't teach properly, they just expect respect, while treating the students horribly.
The students are all disrespectful, pushing in the corridors, bullying, even PHYSICAL HARM, and the school does barely anything about it. There's maybe TWO useful staff in the school, that's it. The pastoral are useless.
The food is the only good thing in that place. I don't know what the cooks are getting paid but it isn't enough. Their food is actually pretty delicious, and it's the only good thing at that place.
Rules. The rules are terribly strict. You ask for a pencil, you get a negative point. You ask for a pen, same thing. YOU AREN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO THE TOILET. Literally. Also, if you take your blazer off, or have a shirt untucked, man you might as well be dead.
The uniform, oh my god. This school is becoming a bloody MILITARY SCHOOL. Ties, if you take them off, detention! Blazers, put em back on or it's to the reset room with you! Shirt untucked? Get outta my class!
And also, fire alarms. When the fire alarm goes off, they take 5 minutes lining us up - INDOORS!! One day, someone's gonna end up dying.
That's my opinion on this school. I think I speak for the majority of the students when I say this school should be shut down. They're disgusting, horrible, ignoring bullies, and only care about the parents opinions.
If you want your child to be bullied by staff and students alike, send them to Helston!!
Ok so weird thing about this place. I was chilling in lesson yk the normal and then a teacher rocks up to me and takes me I'm all like "yo my drilla wyw" he says to me I have to wright a good review here so I was all like "aww nah my bruddah" he said "ILL MAKE YOU" my man turns into scooby doo so I pull out my 8 inch knife on him slash him up around six times MY GEEZER PULLS OUT A WHOLE REVOLVER I duck and dodge he hits me on my among us toes Bruv yk wssp I vent up behind him shash through his spine sending him into shock he dies and I get sent to prison... I broke out and got my g Vladimir to drop a huge mixtape (poop) on the school he says dw my g whole of North sites gone at that point then I hit the Griddy dab and take the. In conclusion I'm sad
What an utterly terrible school! Bullying, violence and threatening behaviour from students is rife. Teachers are unprepared, narrow-minded and egotistical. Don't bother trying as homework isn't praised or even marked. Pastoral support is non-existent and most issues go unresolved due to the weak staff who have no interest in the students whatsoever. I wouldn't send my dog here let alone my son/daughter. No wonder teachers at HCC are leaving here in their droves; I don't blame them!
Uniforms bad, most teachers are bad, lessons are boring, behaviours bad, some rules are completely unnecessary, food looks mank, no where to eat on north site when it rains, corridors too crowded
Without my friends it terrible;( some teachers are nice but the lessons are so BORING!I dont have food from the canteen but it looks mank. Not allowed to go to the toilet other than at break when its rly busy and theres no time:( also the uniforms bad like the teachers are so strict abt it its dumb and the pe skort is TOO short and I feel so uncomfortable in it. Also they make u bring kit rather than wear into scl now which is stupid on so many levels. I have great friends tho but without them it would be UNBEARABLE! I'm dreading going back 2mrw. There are some sport clubs for boys only which is unfair and the corridors are way too crowded it ridiculous and so claustrophobic it lowkey scares me. I used to love school at primary but HCC is kinda hell
absolutely horrible 5 years. wouldn’t recommend. most of the teachers are so bloody horrible and scream at you. not allowed to go toilet most of the time. got sent out for comforting my mate when she was crying. it’s a new building so it’s alright but staff wise is horrible. some are nice teachers but most aren’t. especially ****** 😑
Many cases of bullying that is not resolved. Students are not punished properly and instead are sent to ‘RTL’ or ready to learn, where they just play on their phones. There is nowhere to sit for children who struggle with large crowds. The list goes on, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
School is actually pretty good. Teachers are nice, but strict enough. Curriculum is well taught, food is good, building is nice and there are lots of pastoral support staff to help out.
Pretty good 🤷♀️ some substitute teachers are harsh but they could be from agencies, so could get them at other schools in the area. Teachers are pretty good, and nice. Foods good. School build is pretty good
This a fantastic school however I have a massive problem with RE. When I was in year 7 I learnt about religion and why it's important to respect people no matter what. But then I got into year 9 and my first lesson was about the differences in other peoples beliefs. That was fine until we moved onto our next topic: euthanasia. So I just thought that maybe it was a one-off. I was very wrong. Our next lesson was about other, less peaceful, deaths. Stoning for example. Two lessons later we started learning about serial killers and prison. We watched an episode of Inside The Worlds Toughest Prisons which I had already seen so that was ok but other students in the class hadn't so it was a bit of a surprise to them. Luckily the video wasn't a bad one, it was a prison that worked on rehabilitating prisoners instead if punishing them. I'm just not really sure how any of this relates to RE. I also think it's ridiculous that it's compulsory to take RE for GCSEs.
