This school has its share of below subpar aspects, but it also has many stupendous moments, too. I'm rating Hellesdon High School 4 stars because, overall, I think the positives outweigh the negatives.
Almost all staff at this school are astounding, supportive and helpful. There's the odd few that degrade the learning experience (as in the case of every school), but they're definitely anomalies.
The facilities at HHS are reasonable, and I do appreciate the amount of courses they offer at GCSE level. I further admire their recent implementation of new security measures, adding new fences and gates, a massive upgrade from their previous system, which relied on signs telling visitors to report to reception.
I won't be touching on the inferior parts of Hellesdon High School in my review, there are plenty of other reviews on SchoolParrot for that.
To conclude, is this school any good? Yes, definitely. Does this school have downsides? Yes, absolutely. Does every school have downsides? Yes, certainly.
I was a student at this school a few years ago they did not give help i needed in lessons when i ask for help they said we not lots more kids whith needs that need it and when i told them i was sad they didnt do a lot to help and made me so depressed and not happy there i used get bullied a lot when i used to tell my head of house he didnt really care in hellesdon high there was food on floor every where in the school the toliets once when need the toliets the toliets had a lot litter in toliets and also when toliets the blood and poo and wee down toliets poo up wall and pad for periods laying on the floor
Wouldn't even give it a star. This school is shit no other words! No discipline teachers hate their job. No management headteachers do nothing or do head of houses. Waste of education if you could call it education. No punishments. If you are disruptive you get more attention and it appears to be the good kids are getting punished i wonder what is the point of bring good. You shouldn't need to question yourself but you do at hellesdon high school!. Kids disrupting the learning of others is that okay? According to Hellesdon High School it is. Wouldn't consider this shit whole as a school for September. Wouldn't even go to the effort of looking around.
Honestly such a bad school, they treat you so terribly the teachers dont care at all about your mental health and well being, they kicked a student out yesterday because of her mental health problems saying they cant deal with it, like what type of school is that its horrible if you go to a school you will expect to be treated kindly and not horribly, staff make you cry, when you ask to go to the toilet they say no or sometimes they call on call but they never show up, last year i heard an SLT member saying they cant be bothered to collect the toilet requests because its a “waste of their time” and “the people who are naughty need the attention” like no, if someone needs the toilet, LET THEM GO!! If you teach a child not to go to the toilet for extended periods of times they can end up with serious health problems, kidney stones exc its not fair at all and if you’re thinking on sending your child here please dont its the worst ever if i ever had the opportunity to leave i will take it, the students are as bad as well, you get bullied death stares older years picking on you and just being horrible in general its not fair on little children who go to a school for an education to be treated like this, you wouldnt take your child to a school to get picked on and bullied, you would want them to be taken to a safe environment with lovely support and kind people to help them get a good education
During my time at hellesdon high school, up until year 8/9 the school was okay (this was around 4 years ago) after that the school went downhill significantly quickly, as well as this, the teaching isn’t much better - especially for GCSEs - very few teachers actually care and put the effort in for their students. Most of the year group was put on the foundation tier for maths, with no negotiation to get moved up, which is ridiculous and puts many students at a significant disadvantage. The science department is decent, but most of the good teachers have now left (speaking for all departments apart from social sciences) and this had lead to the school being even worse, main school toilets are disgusting- period blood everywhere, toilets don’t flush or are blocked - my friends and I, when we were in year 11, found a group of girls standing on the toilets looking over at the next cubicle and laughing and I am pretty sure they were recording as well, teachers don’t seem to care much it’s like they are used to it.
Fast forward to now that I’m in my last year of sixth form, I can see how much worse the school has gotten - especially with lower years and the teaching/teachers. Wherever you go, children are swearing or yelling rude things at you, spitting on you, even in front of teachers - they don’t bother doing anything about it. In the sixth form, Chemistry teachers are very good, always supportive and put in extra hours for our grades also generally very nice people. Social sciences are pretty good too, I don’t LOVE the teaching style and it is kind of annoying sometimes, wouldnt really recommend it, but they aren’t bad by any means! There is zero confidentiality with the pastoral team, they are all nice to your face and reassure no one will be told your information, but they proceed to tell the WHOLE of the sixth form team, at lunch they have these meetings where they all sit there and gossip about other student, whenever you try to talk to them at lunch they give dirty looks, or director of sixth form who says “this is an issue” at the start of assembly when it’s your personal business, along with this the director of sixth form is so clueless, incredibly useless and has no thoughts behind the new common room and how hideous and over crowded it is with the massive tables no one uses smack bang in the middle, the air is sticky due to no openable windows or ventilation. There is so much more I could say but for the love of God - NEVER send your child here, there are many better schools and this is one of the worst - it wouldn’t shock me if OFSTED closed this place down. My biggest regret to this day is applying to this sixth form willingly.
do NOT go to the sixth form here GOD it is AWFUL. teachers just read words off a powerpoint to you and expect you to remember it all with little help. the lessons arent interactive i literally could teach myself better at home with the help of the random bloke on youtube. and for visual learners myself theres just no chance youre making it anywhere. not only that the 6th form team are horrendous, anything “confidential” is not confidential in the slightest, say anything to them and the whole school knows about it. theyre all assholes man. complete pricks. if you dont like kids dont work at a school?? 0 respect for our mental health, if you want time away from lessons because youre on the verge of suicide, doesnt matter because “your grades are more important” realistically they just want to boast their “amazing” final grades after torturing hundreds of kids for 2 years. literally no human rights allowed here istg. not only that every single thing that happens to you goes straight on the phone to your parents, so my average day here is suffer in the dirty classrooms listening to an old man read words on a screen to me trying my best to lock it in my brain before i fall asleep, then after my minimal break time in the shithole we call the common room, i go back to the awful lessons but this time with an old lady reading words on a screen. then i go home and get yelled at by my parents because the school sold me as a dogshit student when realistically the school is dogshit. the homework expectations from some of the teachers is insane, i do not have time to study, do the 55 homework assignments i got set, work my part time job, LIVE MY LIFE, EXIST, none of that. also back to the common room that is the most uncomfortable place ever there is 0 ventilation like you cant even open the damn windows so im breathing in the rancid air other students are producing, whilst sitting shoulder to shoulder with the 2 thousand people trying to fit on the room designed for like 30 people at most. if one person in that room has a cold, the entire sixth form gets it. i swear there is literally 0 respect for the people that go here you are put into mental torture for however many years you decide to suffer here for. you never catch a break, you can never live your life like normal, youll never be treated like an adult even though this place L O V E S to advertise the “we treat you like adults” thing. im genuinely so done here please if youre planning on going here pick any other school i would rather take a bullet to my brain than spend another second here ggs
Really bad I have special needs I used to go there treat me like a bit poo didn't understand anything I asked could have help said no would let go toliet
the teachers don’t let you go to the toilet during lessons only if you have a medical card. some teachers dont actually talk about anything but the lesson and dont care about student’s opinions or ways to make the lessons more interesting and making the student want too come to lessons.
Im a student at hellesdon and it is my first year here it is not a good school. The toilet situation is horrible having to cue at break and lunch half the time i miss all my break due to waiting in line. As a girl im not allowed to go during lessons and when on period i have to tell the teacher which can be male or female. Even then i still have to wait for a teacher to come take me to the medical office (most of the time a teacher won’t end up coming) when i’m reality i could walk a minute to the nearest toilet. I have a brother and sister at hellesdon and when i went through a tough time my issue was compared to how much harder things for my siblings were which made me feel worse.I’ve had teachers be rude to me because they dislike my brother. Overall i would not recommend even if you asked me 100 times i would always say don’t send your child here
while i was attending hellesdon highschool 2 savage year sevens put me in between 2 sets of lockers and crushed me, i had 14 broken ribs and a broken femur. hellesdon has tried their hardest to cover it up with bribes but i am BREAKING THE SILENCE! do NOT send your children here, EVER!
Do not come to Hellesdon High Sixth Form, the sixth form is made up from a small group of people, these people are awful. There is such a lack of communication between the staff and students as well as this, confidentiality does not exist at all. You try and tell one of the Sixth form team about something and they either spread it to each other or tell the entire Sixth Form. As a sixth form, we as students expect staff and the sixth form to let us be independent, with our own choices and ideas, but it still feels like we are being controlled and aren't allowed to be are own individuals. As well as this, if you tell the sixth form team about anything regarding the teachers, students side is never heard. We get accused of 'bullying' the teacher for standing up to them. Unbelievable. For any 16 year olds thinking of applying- DON'T.
i’ve previously left this school due to it being awful, they don’t care about your well-being , they moan and punish you when your off due to your well being and overall a terrible school do not go there i was there from 2017-2022 it was hell. I can say that only a handful of the staff was caring (maybe about 4)
People only care about your uniform or if your skirts not at their expectations they tell us we are the problem if we don’t put our 100% in because we wake up early hour 5 days a week and expect us to have the most positive mindsets. people have vapes and do drugs and other disgusting things and they punish them for that but things like using our education as a excuse to lock the toilets people with sanitary reasons to use the toilets cant they have to sit through two hour lessons or even three hour lessons to use the toilets even at break they make you line up and they give you a couple squares of toilet roll to use it’s pathetic and they give random bag searches even if you give them a good reason not to they still do it they go through our private spaces to make their school look more secure the headteachers are only nice when ofstead turns up our review should be below a “good” it’s far from good and I understand why everyone gets pulled out of school because of this and everyone in hellesdon high school will agree that this school needs some serious change.
School doesn’t care about your well-being and only about uniform people get body shamed and the people doing it don’t get nothing the school is filled with rubbish and lots of vapes they locked the toilets because of “vandalism and bullying” the only reason they closed them is to get control of everyone in their school they stripped everyone of their human rights and everyone’s parents are getting sick of this stupid school system and enrolling their children in way better schools it’s so discusting.
I find it so hard to believe that the toilets in this school have no doors no hand soap, shit and period blood on the walls,it’s not fit for human sanitation no wonder the absence of students is bad because you can catch infections there.
This school is absolutely appalling ,the amount of bullying is Astounding and the fertility’s are not fit for humans I wouldn’t even send my dog there. It seems to me the teachers are frightened of the students because children seem to be Abel to misbehave as they choose.please avoid this school like it’s the plague,if you care for your child do not I mean do not send them here.if you want drugs vapes or stolen drugs just visit the boys toilets !!
This school is absolutely appalling, the amount of bullying is atrocious and the
Fertility’s are not fit for humans I wouldn’t even send my dog, it seems to me the teacher are frightened of the students because children seem to be able to misbehave as they choose.please avoid this school like the plague if you care about your child do not and I repeat do not send them here
Horrible school they allow bullying and do not care all they care about is your uniform head teachers are extemely rude they allow people to be physically assulted terrible if you have additional needs they would rather you just not be there. and the behaviour system there is terrible you just get treated like a peice of dirt if your not how they want you to be and the food is manky the chicken paninis are crunchy the fruit is rank they put you in the wrong sets and set you up to fail if they dont like you the only good thing about the school was the school preductions and the brownies at lunch lol
There's people vaping doing drugs having fights its dirty the school spends the cash on random things its horrible. I hate it with a burning passion now.
i have been at this school for five years, academically i have had no issues with the school, and i’ve only ever had problems with the odd teacher, but socially this school has quite literally put me through hell. i have missed weeks, even months of school due to continuous bullying and conflict, i did not want to miss school, i wish i didn’t have to, but due to the lack of punishment and the level of tolerance towards bully’s i felt as if it was my only realistic option. the support team honestly aren’t great, and they don’t have the potential to be, as they are understandably extremely busy and stressed due to the very high demand of support from many students (which is no surprise), so they cannot always give you the level of support that you need. however, when attempting to switch schools , hellesdon was very awkward with it, and this is most likely due to the fact that i do well academically, they mainly focused that they’d be ‘losing’ me as a student at their school, rather than taking a step back to realise that it
would’ve been best for me to switch. if you send your child here, their experience may not be the same as mine (and i hope it’s not), but if they start to experience continuous problems, you as a parent will need to keep pushing the school to do what’s best for your child, socially and to consider what will be best for their mental health.
I attend this school and i would not reccoment one bit. mould growing in the windows paint peeling off the way and smells like a foul odour everywhere not clean makes me feel sick. teachers are terrible. support workers are rubbish i am struggling with bullying and they just let them get away with it and it has lead too cutting ext and still nothing don’t go
