I found in gordonstoun they push you to get the best grades you possibly can, to try many different sports, although especially in older years you have choice around this, as well as different musical instruments. On top of all of this you also get to try new experiences like sailing on ocean spirit, going on exped, which can be on foot, on a bike, or in a kayak!! You get to meet loads of people from all around the world and its a great experience! And once you have had a very jam-packed school term you can break up for an extra long holiday! After saying all of this, the days are super long - 8am-8.30pm for years 9/10 and 9pm for years 11/12/13. I am a day pupil and really struggle with the long days and intensive academic structure, they tend to push you through the academic sausage machine, i like to call it. This school system does not work for every child as some people want more time with their family and are not so academic so might struggle more with this system. Every child suits a different system, some more musical, some more sporty, some more practical and some more academic so its important to choose the right school to suit your child and if your child does not like academics and will not go into academia in Uni etc. you may want to reconsider your options.
