Coasting school...........

Extremely poor experience with this school.
I feel that the school coasts. My child entered the school as greater depth in core subject areas in Y7. Was wrongly put in the bottom set, school admitted this and changed my child back to set 1/2 where they should have been originally (a human error on systems) by this time it was too late almost a year had gone by. My child's academic ability declined in the school. There was no sense of pushing for individuals or personal intervention, very much a number in a system. I do have the opposite experience of another high school with my older child to compare it to, that school was amazing in South Liverpool, my child had a real sense of belonging there and always a personal touch with my child to get them where they needed to be, my eldest child grew in confidence and academic ability leaving with excellent results. We moved to Formby thinking this school would be good but I am extremely disappointed and let down by the cold feel of the school and the absolute 'not botheredness' of the staff with the children. I was told in May that my child would get a level 2 in mathematics for their GCSE and that they wanted them to drop to the lower paper, my child had been getting 4/5's with me at home so I rejected and they sat the higher paper, came out two marks off a 5 - paper being sent back for remarking at staffs request. Just one more indication that they do not know the children well at all, such a misunderstanding of teaching, learning and assessment. I could go on about other things but in hindsight I should have intervened more or moved my child - I heard once from a previous parent that the school is only bothered about high flyers and I ignored the comment, I can see for sure now that is a correct statement, they rely on the high flyers to allow them to coast through without having to exert themselves as teaching staff. I would say to anyone who has a child in there, question the school if your child makes claims or is upset about something - I didn't, I trusted them and ignored my child at times thinking it's a good school that would happen etc.... but it did and they are not. Trust your child.
It's an appalling school. I am sorry I put my child in there.

Terrible

This school is absolutely vile the teachers have clear favourites
The boys give girls loads about absolutely anything and get away with it
The food is actually vile and makes me feel violently ill everytime i step into the lunch hall
The teachers scream at you if you are one second late
Teachers let boys get away with everything where if it was a girl doing half the stuff they did they would be on a detention every day

Formby high school

Terrible.
Teachers favour loud and disruptive kids,
Lack of communication i called the school to see how my child is getting on at maths, Said they would watch my child’s progress and get back in touch. Never heard nothing since still to this day

Only care about attendance, detentions are handed out for pathetic reasons such as being late. They send emails to parents about your child being late. But the last people to act when your child is getting bullied

Pupils also get detentions for not getting ‘half score’ on a test. Despite the revision they put into their work

School

School favourites pupils who are loud and disruptive
If your child is quiet they are left behind and are “so quiet it feels like they aren’t in the room”

Lying bullying staff

Horrendous school, I took 2 of my children out of this school and home educated them as a result of vile bullying staff, nothing but narcissistic creatures and vile compulsive liars- avoid this school if you don’t want your child to suffer with their mental health

Deteriorating School

This school a few years ago was a fantastic school with fantastic teaching and high expectations of behaviour and presentation. Over the past few years however I’m afraid this school has massively deteriorated. Individual children’s needs are becoming lost just because of how busy this school appears to be. The teachers are trying their best under these very difficult circumstances however some are struggling to control classes and are allowing children to speak to them in a disrespectful way and allowing children to swear in class with no consequence. There are a lot of good teachers but at the same time the school has lost a lot of very good teachers.

Please think very carefully before sending your child to this school.

Lack of communication.

Mr Silcock fantastic teacher as for most of the teachers at the school.
But the lack of communication regarding teachers I must speak to up to 3 different teachers just before summer holidays half terms and Christmas.
They don’t seem to have a clue about the back ground regarding my child’s needs.
I feel they are under staffed. I would rate the teachers 5star but the school it’s self not a chance. Sorry.

Sixth Form Experience

The school was of a very high standard when I arrived in year 7, but it has fallen a long way since the pandemic.

When I was in sixth form we were going through the second wave of lockdown in 2021. So not only were we lacking understanding on some of the content, but teachers were absent for many months after the lockdown. After speaking with other former students it is clear to see that this absence affected the grades of many students even though the school tried to say it was our own fault. No one really knew what they were doing going into this exam and the school didn’t seem to care.

The sixth form and the school in general has fallen so far from where they used to be. I would suggest avoiding it until certain teachers, of the history subject especially, have been dismissed.

Maths

Wouldn’t recommend

Formby high school is interested in appearance only and does not care care about students as individuals. Female maths teacher Ms O is strict and unhelpful if you struggle.

Not a great option

Would not recommend. Interested in statistics for ofsted only. Teachers did an incredibly poor job in the teacher assessed grades 2021. No interest in individual students progress and well-being.

It is a good school, but lacks in some areas

It's a good school, however it was thought of as a performing arts school but that has gone downhill for the last few years. And mental health help is very little especially for year 11 struggling with gcse courses and the ammount of work being set. As a school though, it is pretty good.

year 11 2020

as a student through the pandemic in 2020 we weren’t really given any guidance on what we were doing and my grades i got given did not accurately reflect my mocks which is so sad for me as i was aiming for a lot higher than i got

FHS Class of 2020

no REAL help for home issues, the pastoral team don’t believe you if they ask for your side of a story, poor handling of the pandemic

Good, but most of the mental health talk is front

My friend went to the depths office crying asking for there assistance over lockdown in her home life the teacher more concert of her missing 5 minutes of her last lesson compared with the next 6 months

It’s a good school in, some ways, they just need to work on the priorities
