eckington school

teachers don’t give two shits about ur mental health, all they care about is how your uniform looks and how well your doing in lessons.
no blazer=after school detention
no tie=after school detention or give in phone
late after 7 minutes=after school detention
focus on the kids who actually mess about for no reason at all and give them the detentions instead of giving detentions out for silly things

they don’t let you go toilet when u need it, you now have to walk around with ur blazer on if ur too hot u have to take ur jumper off instead of ur blazer, in september there getting rid of blazers so what is the point??
pe teachers only care about the athletic kids especially miss raybould.
they put u in iso as a punishment then they always forget to give u work so ur sat there doing nothing all day (might as well just go home)
teachers remove kids from lessons for the most ridiculous stuff ever just because they can’t handle them, if u can’t handle them quit your job we’re kids what do u expect?

they give u corrections for jewellery when it’s not distracting anyone
not even aloud facial piercings, if parents have paid for there kid to get a piercing they should be able to keep it in instead of taking it out because them teachers don’t want them to have them in, we have lives outside of school.

they change the rules every term, and get angry at kids for not following them straight away

dont send ur kids here it’s shit

HORRIBLE SCHOOL

i don’t know where to even start my children have come home crying, angry or even physically hurt after school they have joined a new trust and brought in “the eckington way” and at the heart of this eckington way is being safe and the only way to describe that is a lie this school is not “safe” and “anti-bullying” infact it’s quite the opposite my daughter would come home from school saying this such as “someone brought a knife to school today” or “one student beat up a member of staff” it’s just a joke.do NOT send your child to this school

Needs a lot of fixing

I’m currently going to Eckington and there’s a lot of issues that are in the school. I think their priorities aren’t really in focus because instead of trying to sort out the huge bullying problem the school has, or instead of hiring better staff instead of having supplies for almost a whole year for a lesson, or instead of tackling large safeguarding issues to do with safety at school and creepy teachers, instead they think the way to fix the school is to make new houses and put up posters saying “it’s not ok” - I’m pretty sure most of those have been ripped off by students now. Some of the teachers are really cruel or mean, especially my maths teacher who has shouted at me a couple of times for seemingly no reason. But I can’t say all he staff are bad, a lot of the teachers are really good, my English, science, art, music, drama, geography, history and my other maths teacher are really good. I hope some of the big issues at school can be fixed because most of the staff are great.

Just maybe instead of worrying about needless uniform and how long girls skirts are we should be worrying about real issues though.

Schools just outright bad

Teachers are the only perk and the only teachers I feel confident enough to talk to I can list on one hand about mental health. Sex ed wasn't even taught to us because the teacher I had didn't want to so fucking great thanks for that. Dinner ladies are super nice though (love them).

Eckington school where teachers don’t care

This is one of the worse schools ..The headteachers parents talk each year to recruit students is laughable it’s the same lies year after year.. by the various headteachers that come and go it’s as if they have a script ..on how they will help your child to achieve there best,, they don’t accept bullying,,there’s a huge pass rate, we support your child to achieve there potential ( that’s always my favourite) all what they think a parent wants to hear, none of which ever happens . The reality is there a Huge bulling problem the teachers don’t want to know but ask your child to write a “statement” they then get the bully to write one what a joke …always ending with your child getting bullied more for reporting it . The teachers talk to the kids how they want my child has been sworn at , screamed at in there face all for asking to go to the toilet. Your child will be lucky if they have a trained teacher for there subject , there’s more substitute teachers teaching any subject even if there not qualified in it.. There’s a number of fights each and every day and I don’t just mean a small disagreement a full blown fight always being filmed on phones and straight on social media. Students get in more trouble for there uniform than for smashing a student in the face with a food tray or smoking . There’s a huge mental health crisis in this school due to the lack of support and just turning a blind eye to the mass of bullying that occurs. The negative points are a joke,, and god forbid your child forgets something in there bag a pen , pencil etc or there shirt is untucked they will be put in isolation,, but swear at a teacher or abuse a student after they’ve written a statement..Nothing. The ofstead report wasn’t a shock to any parent or student..IT IS THE SAD REALISATION ON HOE APPALLING THIS SCHOOL REALLY IS …

This school is shocking! My son yesterday has gone in and he didn’t have his blazer on;they've took his coat off him. This is a big concern for me as a mother,i understand there are rules in place such as wear a blazer, however they are not allowed to deny him a coat in 2° weather. Also my daughter gets excluded everyweek and she’s on a part timetable that’s not even 10 lessons a week. How is she ment to understand any of the learning and excel when there’s grown adults preventing her from that.

Absolutely horrible

I am a student in this school and this school is absolutely horrible. First of all, there is so much bullying here. I get bullied all the time and the teachers doesn't even see. I told a teacher I was being bullied and at the end they did nothing. All they do is put "ITS not okay" Which doesn't help a single bit. Not only that, the assemblies they do is completely useless. Most of the time is just don't bully assemblies which doesn't even help! The education isn't any better. Some lessons we always get supplies which doesn't know what they are doing which students take advantage of. Like science, history, music it's just supplies who do nothing and really be useless. We also had pe which was terrible. The old pe teacher just focused on the athletic boys while didn't focus on the people who were struggling. They never talk to us or ask us to improve just basically let us do our thing. Only good thing about this school is the food. Really the food is up to high standard. So many kids here really just kill your confidence and put you down while the teachers do nothing. Don't go to this school please!

From a student, Shocking!

I started Eckington school around 2016 and left around 2021 and now starting Uni next year. I’ve heard that the school has completely gone down since I left but it has always been a terrible school. One of the teachers was rumoured to be a pedophile and I had him for about 2 years and clearly he should of been fired for the way he treated students, he used to keep us for 10 minutes more so that we would get detention from our other teachers. He would stand in the bin when he was upset and say he was a rubbish teacher. His voice was so creepy and he made everyone uncomfortable. It’s not just him either. I’ve been in numerous lessons where teachers would make fun of people with disabilities. I would have detentions for needing the toilet or getting something out of my bag. My class has to write statements to get two teachers fired because they were high on the job!! One of them kept swearing at us because we couldn’t find where we left off in English. I didn’t even have a science teacher properly for two years and failed my science GCSEs. I had really bad anxiety and bad mental health for all of y10 and 11 and they didn’t do anything to help me. The only teacher that did help me was Miss Holden and apparently she has left, she was great. My German teacher Miss Staley was also amazing so if you have her congratulations she’s the only teacher you will like! Please don’t take your children to this school, I’ve heard even the academy they were apart of have left!

Eckington school

I don’t know where to start, I’ve gone to the score of the last five years. I am now in year 11 and I’ve seen the lot teachers game be up weapons being brought into the building into the building someone presses the fire alarm every other week the school is dirty. There are rats. i’ve never seen one on the inside of the building, but a lot outside from all the mess and litter that is left behind. The toilets are DISGUSTING. They don’t care about mental health, bullying or anything that a school should care about they have their mindset on things like uniform and attendance and their reputation, which isn’t very good and I remember a few weeks ago, a brawl took place in the school canteen this started with two girls pushing each other and triggered an EXPLOSION of anger between the whole year group I remember this must’ve gone on for at least an hour and 20 minute because this started almost halfway through dinner and did not end until school finished. Nobody went to their lessons just so they could stay and fight each other. I don’t know why people think this is a safe environment to be in and this is not even the worst story I can remember once I was in the toilets and there was a student running around shouting I’m going to do it. I’m going to kill myself whilst all the staff were trying to rugby, tackled them down whilst they were running around with a chair leg I didn’t know if I should lock myself in the toilet cubicle or run away I ended up waiting for it to calm down and then went back to lesson but still got a detention because I was too long. Anyway, I’ve got way more stories I could tell, but I simply do not have time.

Never improved

Being a student who has been in this school for around 6 years i’ve seen the school go from bad to worse. When the school has an issue they’d rather clear their bad name than sort out the actual problem. For example bullying, it happens a lot in the school and being an older student i’ve seen a lot. The school put up posters saying “it’s not okay” but that’s all. I saw no change to the bullying there are just posters covering the windows which children ripped down anyway. Another situation is the toilets, they are either locked or they are broken and dirty. There are toilets called the “super loos” which are toilets that anyone can use but they are split into boys and girls. Yes they are always open but they are dirty and smell and people hang around in them which makes it very uncomfortable. The sixth form has a gender neutral toilet which is probably the cleanest toilet and everyone uses that in year 12 and 13 making it very crowded. There are a handful of teachers that are good however being in year 12 the work is easier than i thought and i don’t get much work to do which is making it boring. The school are also pushing us to do something called “moocs” which are basically courses from universities. This isn’t for our success as we don’t want to do it they are practically forcing us to do. It’s only to make the school’s success rate look better as it is failing. While doing my GCSEs i had to do my own work as the school taught us the wrong things especially in science. The lack of teachers is also a massive impact on learning as we get supply teachers who have no idea what we are doing and most of the time aren’t qualified to do that subject. We have been through many headteachers who didn’t change the school at all and then disappeared. Sixth form is probably the best part of this school as it’s a more clean and relaxed area to learn but they do pressure us to do uni courses we don’t want to do. Overall i think there are some good parts but the bad ones just outnumber them.

Horrendous

My son went to this disgusting place. He was bullied through year 7&8 and eventually left for another school when, in year 9 he was attacked with a fork (my son got the same punishment for defending himself than the attacker got for sticking a fork in his chest)! He was also jumped by 4 boys getting on the school bus.. result... Nothing done!!! His mental health nosedived until we got him out. Now he loves life in a new school.
The entire leadership of this abomination needs to leave. Do NOT be swayed by their 'policies', they don't stick to them. Please do not send your children here!!!

You're stuck here I'm afraid

My children attended this School 25 year ago, bullying was a big problem then. I know children that are there currently and bullying is an even bigger problem and the real problem appears to be the school itself. The bully's get away with very little or no punishment and their victims just contiue being victims.
Bully's should be expelled, problem solved but the school is too weak for that it means being decisive.

Good school

I currently go to this school and I think its quite a good school, most teachers are really nice and will have a laughand are helpful, especially the art/photography teachers, the food is amazing, in year 9 you do 4 subjects of your choice which is nice, the uniform isn't that bad compared to some schools, pretty clean, it's a big school. Some bad things are: if you tell the support teachers stuff theres a big chance they will tell your parents which usually makes the situation a lot worse and thats why students feel like they can't trust teachers and can't tell them stuff they are worried about, theres not a lot of seating areas outside/on the courts and not much to do outside, and some of the rules are stupid like getting told off if your ankles are on show or if your shirts not tucked in, wearing jewlery. Other than that its quite a good school and the it gets better once your in year 9 and your doing your chosen GCSE subjects (don't reccomend chosing a language thought because it gets very hard and stressful).

Poor teaching

As a previous student at Eckington (headteacher Mr Tracey at the time) it used to be a fantastic school although didn’t realise at the time. Disciple and respect went both ways. It’s a shame how this school is currently being run with many teachers who cannot control the children abs instead of listening to them it is easier to give them isolation. Many times my child has come home from school upset because she has been accused of something and rather than find out the whole story it is easier to send the children out of class. They are more interested in whether your ankle bone is showing as trainer socks are deemed inappropriate. Yet teachers telling kids about their personal lives seems to be ok.
As a student studying GCSE I find it worrying at the lack of work given for homework and the amount. Of teachers I hear saying they refuse to teach certain children. So much so parents hve either removed the child from school or moved form. As a once proud school with a great head teacher it has come to such low standards with many who don’t have the qualities to bring the best out in children at such a critical stage in their life. However this does not apply to all teachers. It’s unfortunate that the decent teachers are overshadowed by those who need further training. The meals at school are bland and children don’t have enough time to eat a decent meal due to having to go the gym area to eat. With no seating and therefore have to sit on thedirty gym floors. This school needs to look at improving on the last ofsted report rather than looking at the length of kids socks. It’s the same teachers sending kids out of lesson.

Honest Review!!

Let's start with a massive issue at this school, Bullying. What are the punishments at school for bullying? I have been bullied at this school for many years and still don't know the consequences my bullies received. After reporting many, many cases why hasn't the school reached out and asked if I was okay? Bullying is not just the Bully being violent, it is an act of abuse towards another student and damages mental health. If this is true why aren't we helping the victim? Students feel depressed and anxious walking around school but get no help and it's never offered unless you show physical signs of trauma.
Buses are a hot-spot for bullying, they are really busy and no-one gets in trouble because it's "out of school grounds" but students are still in uniform. This means they are still under schools care untill they are at home. School pay for buses, just for the bus drivers to watch Bullying happen. This is not okay and needs sorting.
Let's not forget "snitches get stiches" used often by teachers and students. My advise to students is no matter how big or small the problem, report it and don't lie about what happened, honesty is the best policy!

My next isssue is with uniform! Why does having your shirt untucked get an afterschool detention but being disruptive and annoying in class only gets a warning? What happens when you have false nails or ankle showing? You get isolation and kept out of classes for the day making your learning worse because of your uniform. This school cares more about how your dressed than anything else and still wonder why students aren't listening anymore. They completely disregard students view on the uniform and students go unheard with ideas that everyone else agrees with.

Other points:
- Unlock the toilets at break and lunch
- More teachers in corridors ( no supervision and is a hot-spot for bullying)
- Teachers need to speak to students not just send out digital questionnaires
- Directional signs need to be replaced with new ones, you can barely see some of them
- One way system gets ignored by students and teachers (100+ students through double doors at one time)

Self Explanatory

Very focused on appearance rather than quality of education. My last 2 years of education were spent with no chemistry teacher, meaning I had to teach a lot of the content to myself. They threatened to kick me out when I supported a twitter account that aimed to expose the unjust acts of the school (I had no followers so no actual power). Detentions were given out to those who’s ankles were showing, and one teacher made a girl change her socks simply because he didn’t like the style, they were apparently provocative. My bus driver was a creep who played inappropriate music, but when it was brought up with the school they claimed it wasn’t their issue to solve. My form tutor once told me that her mental health was deteriorating because I wouldn’t make eye contact with her when she was speaking to the class. Majority of the teachers were amazing, but it was poorly run and priorities were all over the place.

Terrible School

this school is absolutely horrendous. teachers make innapropriate comments towards students E.G a teacher asking a girl to take her bra off because it was distracting him? teachers are unapproachable and have angry attitudes towards students for no reason. students get called annoying for talking to the teachers, by the teachers. you aren’t allowed to drink the fizzy drinks that they sell to you at lunch during lessons. they do absolutely nothing about bullying other than put up posters and send out surveys asking if you feel safe in school. people get pushed through the corridors and get injured. fights are literally a monthly thing. a teacher has been punched in the face due to a fight before. it’s disgusting too. the dinner hall is full of cobwebs, the changing room has showers (which haven’t been used for years) which have spiders coming out of the plug holes . they do not care about homophobia or racism and do little to nothing when it happens. teachers ignore rude comments and violence during lessons or in the corridors. please don’t send your kids to this school.

Do not send your child here!

This school has a “good ” reputation when really it is shocking. The toilets are in a disgusting state with worms in the lights to not having enough toilet facilities because most of them are broke. When there are several toilets that are broke it takes longer for other people to go. If you are in the toilets for too long then you get a sanction even though you are waiting for the toilet. In year 7 a part of our social area was taken away and students can only go on the courts or in the dinner hall (which if you are stood up you would get told off and told to get out even though there are no available seats to sit on. Having big pieces of paper saying “it’s not okay” but when someone does actually get bullied they get maybe a 10 minute detention. Teachers are not in enough control with the students. The rules are C1 is a warning, C2 takes some of your achievement points away and a C3 is meant to be supervision but students could be disrupting the lesson multiple times and not even get a C1. When you first start secondary it is scary and at first you feel a bit reassured but after a week it becomes more of an unsafe environment. When you are upstairs in the IT2 area going to lunch is a nightmare. The way the students act is horrible and the teachers just watch people get shoved. Entering the doors to follow the one way system is a nightmare. You get shoved everywhere. Another nightmare with the one way system is that most of the time you have to go an extra long way just to get somewhere which would normally only take you 2 minutes. Teachers can’t even keep up with the rules so how do the teachers expect the kids to. Homework is a massive issue! If you can’t access teams then you can’t do anything. Clothing is way to strict. Your not allowed to wear anything on your legs other than trousers. If you don’t have black socks on (even if they are just plain white) then you get sent to the head of year to get some black socks. If you don’t have your t-shirt tucked in you get a more serious consequence then if you was being disruptive in your lessons. This school is not a place you should send your child!

my experience

been here since september, awful school, some teachers are nice but the homework you get sent is too much. you cant eat outside so have to get 100+ students into a tiny hall at once. you cant eat or dink outside. students are behaved badly. they care more about homework and how you look more than mental health. the radnor fizzes’ are £1.20 each which is really expensive. they have “ITS NOT OKAY” posters around all the school for anti bullying but if someone was bullied they would do nothing about it. you have to get 1200+ students through a set of double doors at one time which is ending in injuries according to pushing and shoving from the older years. the bus 124 is really busy, theres 2 other busses that do the same/ similar route and the people could be put on them. the bus drivers can be saying stuff sexual to students. the fights that happen can be bad but teachers never say anyting about it. they put too much pressure onto the students. especially year sevens. if you are 2 minutes late to a lesson then that will be a 30 minute detention or even a sanction. your not aloud on phones, not even to message your parents if it somthing serious. Mr Brennin is head of year 11 and still hasnt been sacked? they have cut off a whole area in year 7, causing more crowding on the courts. girls or anyone with hair are getting gum SPAT INTO THEIR HAIR! People chew gun in lessons mainly to stop them from chewing inside their cheeks or their tounge. if you forget a piece of equipment then thats a sanction immediately. the english stairs are a big problem. people get shoved down the stairs, again, another high chance of covid. i get that there are so many students but it should be under control.

Not too good :(

Alright school, very good facilities and equipment but they overcharge you for everything and try to make money at any junction, they charge a pound for a dirt cheap face mask. Food varies from delicious to horrible, no inbetween. Staff are strict and mean or unbelievably good people, and other students bully and attack each other with little to no repercussions, and they enforce terrible rules but dont enforce sensible ones
