Some of the teachers make my day others don't. That isn't the problem that happens in every school. The senior leadership's rules are ridiculously strict and detentions and other punishments are getting too severe. On the first day of year 9 we were rounded up into the hall and berated for half an hour on behaviour we hadn't even done yet and then were dismissed. Haven't had a problem with bullying. The worst thing is the expectation cards. You get a signature for going against the rules, sounds good on paper. However some teachers hand these signatures out like theres no tomorrow. The expectations of uniform are soul crushingly overbearingand if you get your card signed for this three times you get an hour which is unnecessary as it was a perfect 30 a year ago. Not allowed to go to the toilet during class.Dont feel overly safe due to a recent attempted stabbing plus there were police coming in at some point due to people reporting people in balaclavasor something im not sure. Overall great subject matter and lessons are often enjoyable and the teaching is great as well. Plenty of Extra curricular activities. In conclusion, the rules are way to strict and will be distressing for most people but the teaching itself is prodigious.
I highly highly recommend Durrington high school. My son has had problems settling in including being bullied by so called friends. That staff have been amazing amd so caring.. they really go out of their way to help in any way they can..lovely school
The place is terrible within the course of a year there has been several riots where people have been trampled a full on lockdown from a trans student who was bullied to the point they became depressed and came into school with a knife had several occasions where people have been recoded in the toilets with it shared across the school a kid with a mental disability was strangled to the point of near unconscious by a kid because he annoyed him and the worst part the school will try to deny or make the incident sound considerably better than it was they lie through there teeth constantly I personally don’t mind the school because I’m someone desensitised to the sheer insanity that occurs on a daily basis most of the students are junkies or live with abusive parents and take it out on people weaker on them if I could I would get rid of the very concept of the school on top of all this the food prices are astronomical to the point i could probably buy all the ingredients and make a single dish whilst still having the necessary ingredients to make the same meal 10 times over i apologise if I got a bit convoluted but all in all don’t go
Fights all the time, tons of bullying, food is terrible, teachers barely do anything to help, toilets and halls are always disgusting with food and rubbish everywhere.
Teachers were abusive never listens and they never solved any issues. The place is constantly dirty and the food is bad and expensive. The first week of being there someone had their eye stabbed. There are too many drug problems there also the teachers are Hippocrates and do not follow rules them selfie. Only send you’re kids there if they want to be depressed and not learn anything.
The school cares more about its reputation than its students. They are always telling students to act well if there are visitors but they never deal with bullying. School is about learning but it feels like all the teachers try to do is control the students instead of working with them.
Hi so I go to this school and it’s so bad they don’t care about how u feel only care about how to make it look good to public. They don’t care about bullying or racism.
In year 10 I was serious bullied about a nasty rumor about my body which was started by a girl who had previously beaten up my mate , the bullying was from a large group of people who have constantly harassed me throughout the school year with one of them assaulting me 3 hours before the schools open evening and before Easter of that year they sexsualy harassed me . The people are still in the school for yr11 but keep bullying other people and have been on their final warning about being kicked out for months which has lead my mental health to go down with massive anxiety.
Probably one of the worst schools in England 4 years of my life wasted due to lazy teachers not putting the effort in to provide help for student that struggle luckily I had the right mindset to sort my life out as soon as I left and now doing better than any member of staff at this school. No teacher should tell a student they will never amount to nothing in life and put them in the mindset that they will get no where in life don’t send your kids to this school there is much better out there.
good but there are so many people in the halls you end up with so many bruises where you constantly getting pushed and shoved great pastoral care but overall its great!!
Best days of my life here! Left a couple of years ago and still miss it every day. the music and drama is superb and has built my confidence and I will carry the skills I have learnt here with me for life. Thanks DHS!
I am a former student of the school. While there, I experienced endless amounts of harassment and bullying, i’d sometimes even have stuff thrown at me while in lessons. Whether I was harassed for openly being a genderfluid lesbian, or because I was a goth I have no idea, but regardless of that, I still felt unsafe and anxious within school. I was nervous to come in and I knew if i spoke to a teacher, practically nothing would be done about it, since as i’ve seen with previous cases the school seem to care about their image and reputation more than their students mental health and self expression. Furthermore, students who are known for assaulting people, discriminating against people (racism, homophobia, transphobia) and sexual assault still remain in school without any real punishments put in place. However, a majority of the teachers are really lovely and show a genuine kindness towards students, which is what I think helped me get through a lot of my years spent there. The art department is absolutely amazing, and the teachers are just wonderful. The education is really good, but while I was there I just always felt nervous for what would happen next because of the people I was surrounded by. The school did not handle bullying well, and they also claimed that if you needed someone to talk to, they’d be there to help and everything would be ‘confidential.’ Spoiler alert- everything is not confidential. They proceed to tell other members of staff and your parents when you have spoken to them about your worries and private topics, further worsening the situation.
I just hope for future generations, children and teens will be allowed to express themselves without feeling scared for what others may think. Hopefully, the school and it’s students become more open minded in the future since a lot of the abuse I endured there will stick with me forever.
I am a student at durrington with several mental disabilities, including selective mutism. The school would not allow me to use my assisted speaking device even while being aware of my condition.
Been a student here for a couple of years...not going to lie, it hasn't been great. The COVID restrictions have been very very poor and have sent home several year groups over the past week due to so many staff having cases but they got rid of masks. Heating is never on and students get told off for such ridiculous things like socks or size of earrings but I know students getting away with nose piercings. Not fair.
SOME of the teachers are amazing and actually enthusiastic about your learning. The school isn’t terrible and can allow you (if you work hard enough) to achieve something great but the large majority of the teachers couldn’t care less about the students and can’t wait for the days teaching to be over.
The abhorrent lack of care for the students is shocking possibly due to the ‘C E O’ (like come on it’s a school not a business how can you be a C E O) only caring about how the ‘research’ school is perceived in the public eye than the students opinions or even worse the grades they get.
The branding of a research school was clearly only present as a cash grab for the senior leaderships personal accolade. It feels like in a school that is meant to teach children life skills, the only skills being taught are kakistocracy.
Only care about their reputation, not their students. Their mental health, progress, or happiness either. Covid bubbles barely worked and barely ventilated.
The school was great but now they seem to care more about how the school looks to the public rather then weather the students are happy. Also racism is a huge problem. They also favour the naturally smart kids
Absolutely amazing. They are so caring and sort out any problems. The social distancing is good compared to other schools such as Worthing high who had all year groups mixing in corridors with no masks. I think they have done the best a school could do in terms of COVID safety. There SEN department is also amazing. Teachers are caring and supportive. They are just such a good school. Being a research school is so good. As this means there education and ways of teaching is superb and always improving. I highly recommend this school!
I am a student and social distancing is terrible doesn’t happen many to be in bubbles but you still move through different bubbled areas hand sanitizers in the main hallway which is meant to be my bubble but too many people but not good at all
