I hate every second in this place do not come here
Staff are appalling. My tutor at this school never listened to what i had to say and always made it seem like i was a big problem. More on this teacher (my tutor) she never deals with any issues properly as she portrays me as a very problematic student though i am the complete opposite. Like it isnt like im perfectly silent but my tutor made it seem like i scream my head off in class which wasnt the case. As this is a grammar school if you are more of an average level student like i am some teachers just make you seem stupid by making it seem like any grade that isnt a top grade us bad and therefore reflects poorly on the school. This just causes pressure and can cause mental health issues because at this point everyone in this school cannot deal with these horrific levels of teaching.
Terrible school made my daughter want to end her life so much bullying behind closed doors and the teachers don't care and only preach about mental health my daughter was not able to eat at all when she went there no good food either disgusting food. When my daughter had an accident in a classroom everyone made fun of her and laughed at her no one helped her and then she was talked badly about for ever .
My daughter is receiving amazing pastoral care so I think things have improved significantly. It’s been a very good school so far and she’s settled in well 👍
It feels like a private school without the price tag
The standard you would expect from a grammar school is not there...yikes! My daughter told me about some cases of racism, and teacher's inability to deal with it/
If you're applying for oxbridge/ med/ vet /dent there is not much good support. Some teachers are just rude and discouraging.
This school was honestly good. Many people are saying its bad but its not. The teachers are great and the resources are plenty. The teachers are very understanding and take their job seriously and there have been multiple renovations recently. The pressure is a given considering it is a grammar school but not too much to handle and the teachers help a lot if you talk to them.
Having lost its "outstanding" Ofsted status due to suboptimal leadership, it's now just a feeder school for Pate's. The best and brightest jump ship each year and nobody wants to hang on for sixth form. Teachers seem to resign every five minutes. There is zero stability. Students are successful at GCSE's, not because of DRHS, but in spite of it. Desperately needs new Head before it sinks further.
Denmark road high school is a school that you have to take a test to get into. Don’t do it. The school pressures you and everything revolves around test scores and not effort to the teachers. They don’t care about your well-being and mental health. Also if you get into an argument and someone reports you then you will be seen as the bad person and they never listen to you. Also the food is terrible, once I had the chicken pasta and got food poisoning. The only good thing about it is probably the sports facilities. The school has great sports availability.
Some fantastic teachers but pressure is completely overwhelming, especially in older years.
Most people will be leaving the school with happy memories but a bunch of trauma to be honest!
Very much made to feel anything below a 7 or an A is bad and inadequate.
Absolutely abhorrent pastoral care in all honesty, especially in year 7 - 11, there is nowhere people feel comfortable going to for support, especially mental health!
Bullying is rife and rarely dealt with, and if it is dealt with, it is dealt with poorly.
Incredibly hypocritical and punishments vastly differ depending on person!
Most support you'll get is from your friends, but I will be leaving knowing I have some amazing friends!
okay, not too good with handling bullying and the cafeteria system needs a lot of work, and way too much pressure is put on you to get the top grades. despite this there are some good teachers and sports are decent.
Willing to accept criticism from students, and have some good staff members, but certain things such as performing arts funding and cafeteria issues they turn a blind eye to.
A good school if your child isn't neurodivergent. Put way too much pressure on kid and there were many instances where soemthing along the following happened: being put in detention for not getting a certain score in French. This teacher also ended up bullying her and causing a lot of stigma surrounding her learning disability. They also ignored signs of abuse from a classmate which went on for an entire year. Apart from that it has good resources and courses.
