I have two sons who have both been through this school from years 7-11. My youngest left this year. Both sons had markedly differing levels of ability. The school has been outstanding in aiming to help the children achieve their potential. Yes, there is a focus on academic success which we all want but most importantly, this school has a heart. The Head teacher and the staff seem to genuinely care about the kids and their emotional development too.
The school feels extremely safe and protective. It is in a beautiful countryside location, literally overlooking fields. The children are well behaved, wear their uniform as directed and attendance is good. Exam results are above the national and local average.
I was sad to hear that the school had lost its outstanding status. To be frank it is undeserved and l am confident that they will be marked outstanding again in the future. Many schools are being downgraded so don't let this put you off applying.
I know this sounds like I must work for the school but I don't! I just want to shout from the rooftops about what a wonderful school this is.
My daughter attends Debenham high and has excelled academically, the teachers are very good at challenging her to achieve her best. When ever I have had a concern of any sort the teachers have responded to my concerns immediately and resolved the few minor issues my daughter has had promptly and with satisfactory outcomes. The attitude of teachers and fellow students are to be commended as the majority are definitely caring and promoting a family environment within the school. I know this was definitely the right school for my daughter and would recommend 110%
Debenham high school - Best school locally by far.
This is an excellent high school, the best in the area. Parents want their children to go there and rightly so. The school is well led by Mr Martin who leads in a dynamic and human way. He's such a nice man. The teachers all excel in terms of their teaching prowess but also their care and interest in their pupils. There are a number of children with special education needs and they are well supported by a team of teachers and support staff. The school is in a beautiful countryside setting. It is a small school and feels very safe.
Seems to refuse to admit there are problems with the school, so hence can’t deal with them. Mental health, behaviour and bullying are very poorly dealt with. Teachers are ok but some clearly don’t care. Student support completely overstretched and can’t provide proper care.
I am a parent with two sons at the school, both with polar opposite educational needs. The school is excellent. Staff genuinely care about pupils and are fully aware of what is going on for students and look out for them. The children are encouraged to reach their highest potential in school in all areas and we have been privileged and proud to be associated with the school. Well worth moving to the catchment if you're considering as competition for places is fierce and rightly so. The head teacher is dynamic and kind and leads a team of dedicated staff, many of whom have worked there all of their career.
Good academically, but needs to work on its handling of mental health, and bullying. My experience with both of those, has lead me to know they hold a very dismissive attitude towards these issues. when they constantly pride themselves on safeguarding. Soon as they start paying attention to the personal problems of their students, instead of forcing them back into classes, then they might be trusted more by the students.
it’s a really good high school. when hearing about other people in my academic year’s experiences with other secondary schools it really made me realise how lucky i was to be at this school.
