I recently had an encounter with De Lisle collage and unfortunately, I was appalled by the blatant racism displayed. It's disheartening to see such attitudes persist in today's world. We should all strive for inclusivity and respect, but unfortunately, that was sorely lacking in this instance. I urge the establishment to address these issues and work towards creating a welcoming environment for everyone. Discrimination has no place in our society, and it's essential that we actively combat it wherever it rears its ugly head.
My daughter had to buy the RE book " Catholic Christianity with Judaism " to revise her GCSE which was written by a RE teacher at school ( selling at school shop ). Totally unprofessional to sell her own book to gain profits, rather than focusing on teaching her knowledge to students and give out handout ! This particular teacher is unapproachable compared to other teachers from this school. Her book should be taught during the lesson rather than telling students to buy !
How meals were always run out , especially on Friday as all the teachers like fish and chips, so leave students with no hot meals !
Excellent Head of PE ( assistant head ) Mr C who is professional and helpful !
Appalling leadership and management. Care more about rules and sanctions than the well-being of children.
After school detentions given for unjust reasoning such as, forgetting a calculator, no warnings, no second chances.
More bothered about instilling fear in to the children, than caring.
Won’t communicate or cooperate with parents, no meeting half way, what they say goes.
Do not send your children to this school, unless you and them want to be bullied.
I’ve been shocked at people commenting that religion is pushed, I’m catholic and when I attended I found the opposite, no prayers and mass like twice a year. I also remember students calling the former Chaplin horrific names and putting derogatory posters up and it wasn’t addressed.
I also had a horrible experience when the head of English took me to a room one to one about my coursework and swore and banged his mug, I didn’t want to report it because I was a bit naughty and I didn’t think staff would acknowledge my claims, but looking back he was extremely intimidating.
Furthermore I remember a teacher and teacher affair being exposed because when the man’s wife found out the woman teacher ran into my friends lesson crying telling the teacher all the details so that the students could hear. They’ve also had a teacher that was struck off for having relations with a student.
Also I remember students being extremely bullied and nothing was ever done about it, I often thing about them and I feel awful for them the emotional and psychological damage it must of caused.
it's not the best. but it borderlines the worse. the inside is disgusting, it's like a prison. the ceilings are cracked, panels are missing, and the carpets are noticeably stained and have multiple holes and rips on them. the windows, you can't even look out of them very well because they're that scratched and sometimes high up. some students may feel safe but they've recently added some "measurements" that include cameras outside a female toilet facility where people will either look inside them via the camera or the head teacher will straight up walk inside them himself (headteachers male). the teachers are ok, and the humanities department is wonderful but most of the rest are not. i don't often eat school food but from past experience, the chips taste like burnt sweetcorn, there's often hair in the pasta and the plates are often unclean. it may be a Catholic school but they say they welcome all religions, they do not. this is a lie. they will force you to pray to their God and to their beliefs no matter your own. whether you're pagan, Islamic, Jewish, and so on, you will be forced into praying what they pray and the consequences are horrendous if you do not pray. the grades that they receive through exams are ok, they're decent and they supply support for year 10 to 11 (only), grades are yes good here but that's all they care about. the outside s horrible, the tables are split into three parts and most benches are broken in a sense you can grab 2m wooden planks off the top and swing them around, the grounds are uneven too.
De Lisle is a wonderful school with genuine care for both the wellbeing and academic performance of students. Throughout the seven years I spent at this school, I always felt supported and confident that with the help of the excellent teaching staff, I could certainly achieve my true academic potential. I was genuinely sad to leave on my last day!
Rumours were started that weren't true didn't trust me when I had appointments didn't sort out bullying made me have suicidal thoughts scared of going to school didn't help me when I needed the help don't discipline others when it's needed teachers let people call me names and done nothing about that person but told me off when I'm in the class with the teachers
My experience here has been very mixed. I’ve attended De Lisle since year 7 and now am in year 13 so have witnessed a lot of change in the school, particularly since new leadership.
I think that is this school honestly has the best intentions for its students - but goes about it in the wrong way.
They want to keep the students safe, but focus too much on strict rules and regulations, restricting toilet usage and entrances and exits, controlling the schedule for every second spent in school, rather than tackling the root of the problems, the bad intentions of a few students. To some extent the new rules are working, but they also seem to restrict the freedoms of the larger student population and have left the atmosphere at school on edge at times.
Apart from a few (which there are at every school) the teachers here truly seem to care for my well-being and are incredibly supportive and kind.
I think the academic standards are excellent, especially nurturing those who achieve moderately well. Some friends who are low achievers have struggled here and have left after year 11 for this reason. As a high achiever, in certain subjects I felt like I was expected to kind of make my own way, but a lot of teachers do try to accommodate all levels and have certainly helped me do the best I can, especially at Sixth Form.
The building and facilities are okay, a bit old and limited but they work fine.
The drama department is a brilliant and supportive community but doesn’t have great facilities, but I’ve found this hasn’t really effected my experience too much.
Bittersweet leaving here, I’ll miss it a lot but I think I’ll enjoy not having my every move dictated.
The schools new management focuses mostly on the aesthetics of the environment the children are in . I believe for the schools placement in the area of Loughbough it is, the focal point should be pastoral care . A great example of the pushed importance of aesthetics is the ****** ****** ** ***** *****, enforcing rules for children to always smile and keep eye contact - putting children's mental health at risk.
In my experience of attending I’ve noticed a lack in attention to the casual racism , sexism and homophobia portrayed by lots of the students and occasionally members of staff.
The school is not all bad and I think it has a real potential for success , but in order to do so - somethings are going to need to change or I only see the school becoming a mental drain for the students enrolled .
I love the school and I would love to see its success.
This school is very strict. Phone aren't allowed at all, and if teachers or any other member of staff see you with your phone they will confiscate it. Confiscated phones will only be returned to parents/legal guardians at the end of the next day. So if your phone gets confiscated on the last day of term it will be returned to you at the end of the first day after the half term?! The school does bag searches if they feel like they need to regardless with whether you feel comfortable with them searching your bag and blazer.
The school doesn't help with mental health, they WILL just force information out of you, if they believe your at risk of anything.
Most of the teachers aren't nice at all and the detention system is RIDICULOUS. Safety at school is also quite low. The school does nothing about bullying, racism, homophobia etc;I KNOW people who have brought pocket knives into school and heard of others who brought drugs in, which is a concern to ones health.
The outdoor environment is average. But the indoor environment is a whole different story. Holes in carpets, wet ceilings and more. The school can't afford to add in buildings–needing to use temporary ones.
We now end lunch 10 minutes earlier than we used to. We have to line up in our forms and then a member of staff will check our uniforms and that kind of stuff. Me and LOADS of other female students feel uncomfortable when a male (specifically a male pe teacher in this case) teacher tells someone/us to roll our skirts down. This is because: 1. Why are they interested in the length of our skirts? 2. Why were they LOOKING anyway? And 3. They probably don't want our legs to show that much but why is it ok to have male pe teachers for SWIMMING??
Lessons are boring and most of the teachers are strict. A lot of the time if you ask for help they'll say something like "Why weren't you paying attention."
Another thing about uniform and our appearance. How are piercings going to affect our grades?
If your a teacher at De Lisle please answer the questions. I'm not giving away my name nor what year I'm in.
The school has a poor standard of teaching, poor pastoral team and even worse management.
The pastoral team will brush of mental illness and ignore it. They will allow students to get away with homophobic, racist, and generally unacceptable comments. Teachers will search bags with no cause and will confiscate phones, regardless of if they are switched off.
More recently the school seem to have "acquired" the public walk way outside of the college. Anyone seen wearing jackets, hoodies or with mobile phones, WILL receive in school sanctions.
Bullying is rarely dealt with, the school blame victims and the current head teacher will threaten you, call the police on you and blatantly gas light you.
Indoor conditions are poor, paint is peeling off walls, bathrooms are left trashed and computers broken.
Teaching is exceptionally poor and biased. Teachers attempt to influence students political, ethical and religious views with their own, receiving absolutely no repercussions for doing so.
The canteen serves more grease than actual food, bring a packed lunch!
The school is an incredibly unsafe environment with violent students being allowed in as well as an an abundance of drugs.
The caretakers are rude and rarely do their job, teachers make up rules as they go along to penalize students they dislike and the headteacher is an egotistical maniac.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
The school only cares students with high grades. If you have lower grades then the school won’t help with that, if you also have any problems with you’re mental well-being, you will be dealt with as an issue not a person.
In my experience at De Lisle Catholic Academy I have had an unforgettable experience. Not really in a good way though. First of all I have never been religious myself, and I respect religion but what I don't like is when it is being forced upon me and threatened with detentions for not showing my love to god? That to me is a line crossed.
Next the staff and students. Now I'm sure the school has a specific number of students the school can have, but I believe that that number has probably been crossed by maybe a few hundred students. And teachers, now there must be a massive problem with these teachers. Ok, ok there are a good few of Teachers in the staff who are wonderful to be in their classes, but the majority of teachers that probably have maybe a few months of experience to the ones who just started working as a teacher? It's ridiculous!
Finally grades. Our old headteacher (No names) he was a good man. All the grades were doing good, I mean exceptional. When the school was recognised as a good school. Students loved him too, he was what you'd say, kept the morale of the students up. The only reason he was being fired was because the Religious Education garades were average to below average. Bit stupid in my opinion but anyway, he was then replaced by a new headteacher, and now what he does is vice versa to the headteacher before, so bad grades for everything out but amazing grades for RE? Oh and the students dislike the new headteacher.
The state of the school is also disgusting. Inside the school it literally gives off Prison vibes! I'm not the only one who thinks this too. Holes in the carpets, cracks and chips in the concrete floor, wet damp spots on the roof, it's like the school has been around since World War 2.
That is my experience in De Lisle and I do not recommend sending your child to this school because it has ruined some students chance of showing what they can do. Thank you for reading :)
Very VERY strict and religious. They will make you partake in prayer and hymns regardless of your beliefs, just a warning. They teach to a fairly decent standard but the detention system is unrealistic. Many spend their time in detention for no real reason due to the ridiculous strictness of the school. Dinner queues are unmanageable and the school is overpopulated and cramped. The school looks very old and has to make use of temporary buildings due to the amount of pupils it now has. It has a decent sixth form centre but all pupils mix when entering the canteen regardless and there are no longer separate queues. If joining in year 7 you probably won’t find the rules too ridiculous but if you knew the school how it was before it has become much more strict. You will not be allowed your phone even on campus. They do do bag searches and they confiscate any devices they find until the end of the next day in which it can ONLY be collected by a parent. This means they will keep it over weekends and school holidays so do not try to break the rules if you will be upset losing out and gaining detentions. VERY STRICT
The school sometimes tries but it is inconsistent. It has unreliable care and although some staff put effort in the majority don’t. I wouldn’t recommend this school especially if you struggle with anxiety.
This school is a cross the road from a school with a bad reputation so most kids come here to delisle. The school is rated good for marks but it is very strict(you can have detentions for unnecessary reasons)If u don’t believe in God then this may not be the school for you it is very religious! It is also very cramped as you are going to class
