Dictatorship. Control over using the toilet. Giving excuses that they are being cleaned or repaired when it actuality the school love having control over pupils bodies. No where in the actual real world do employers or other people dictate when people use the loo.
i’m a student here and the teachers are HORRIBLE especially miss nicholls and miss etheridge they seemed to care more about my eyelashes than anything else and they have literal gates on the toilet which shows they do not care about the kids that go here. One of the teachers was meant to help me with something and i have been waiting for months and she still has done nothing about my situation stupid woman
Unfortunately this school failed my daughter, they labelled her a naughty child.
Instead of braking down the barriers and finding out ways to help her, they chipped away at her confidence with Punishments and isolation. My daughter Suffered with social anxiety, Dyslexia, And is currently going through an ADHD test. As this School Cottingham did not want to test my daughter for ADHD. In year eight, the head of year eight Informed me they didn’t think that my daughter was dyslexic. I pushed back and made them do the test and luckily now my daughter receives extra health as she needs it. They did not have the patience or facilities and definitely not understanding for children that have learning Differently. And They take credit for the children that are very good at learning their structured curriculum/ Format as these particular students would thrive in any school.
They seem more bothered about appearances then children’s individual education.
The School didn’t contact me regarding My child’s learning decreased Rapidly ,
They didn’t contact me when my child was struggling with maths and English. They didn’t contact me when my child was becoming isolated.
But They contacted me when my child wore eye shadow and had pierced ears. This ultimately Made me furious , how could they completely ignore my daughters education watch her put barriers and see her change into a child that fears school . She needed guidance patience and understanding from the school.
In the end, I basically told them how to do their job. They tried to deflect the meetings, but I put them back on track. I told them we need to look at The real problem at hand, which are the barriers she’s put up and build back trust in the school and form good relationships with teachers.
The barriers are stopping Harmony from learning and we need to break them . Which means working with Harmony not constantly sticking in isolation because that’s easy.
Breaking down the barriers Wasn’t actually difficult, We gave her a time out card for five minutes, as she can get over stimulated in classes and hotheaded.
extra time doing her tests and exams and extra help during classes and joining homework groups.
All she wanted was the be treated like a everybody else a “human and to be acknowledged , once the teachers started communicating with Harmony more like an adult and taking on bored her learning needs, she built up her confidence responded very well.
but unfortunately to little to late.
Previously to all of this I had been on the phone to her school trying to get hold of them regarding harmony’s education and learning. Also my daughter suffered with very bad PMT and the school didn’t put that into account until year 11. Such a sexist attitude towards females!
This school demands you follow rules like a factory almost and if you do not fit that criteria, you’ll be punished or labelled the naughty child.
awful school they never cared for students they never dealt with bullying, i was bullied by not only the students but teachers aswell. they care more about the length of your nails and colour of your socks then they do about your education and well being. i tried multiple times to move. my parents where in almost everyday trying to sort out issues with students and teachers and nothing ever got sorted. it used to be an alright school to attend but it has since gone downhill. do not send your childeren here, worst thing i ever did
This school might have bullying but the teachers deal with it and support all the students. Some children with special needs get taught different and not with the rest in a way they understand better. Lessons are fun but sometimes a bit boring but that comes in every school right. I recommend this school. Kids are great. Some bullies but as i said dealt with and sorted. Every high school has bullies though it wouldnt be one without them.
Absolute terrible school. The staff are not approachable if you have an issue they won't get back to you and are always unavailable if you go in, they never ring you back or return emails. The example they set is appalling as the rules don't apply to them. I would compare the school to Nazi Germany and deffinatly would not send your child there.
I think 1 star review is too good for the school and if I had the option to transfer my child to Beirut instead of cotting high then I would take that option. Stay away!!!
Student can forget thinks like everyone else, is not wright to give a 30 minutes detention for once to forget her PE uniform, you could text parent to notice that make sure bring her next time instead
This school used to be great but with new teachers and a new system it is a nightmare. Teachers make my child feel singled out as they are always stopping her daily to check her uniform and for piercings even though she is with friends who have non uniform and piercings they are left alone.
The teaching is very poor. my child was accused of talking in class when she spoke up and told the teacher she wasn’t the one that was talking she was shouted at and told to get out the class room, she was then put in isolation for the rest of the day with little class work and the work she did have she needed help with, when she asked for help she was told to leave it.
There a a lot of incidents like these and I’m in the process of looking for a different school that will actually concentrate on my child’s education.
I'm bullied here. The teachers give those restraining orders but no one actually tries to reinforce them. I'm bullied for my stimming and I'm told to stop ticcing or to shut up in the classrooms(not by the teachers). The teachers don't do anything, and one got mad for me not being able to go near the one I have a restraining order against. I don't like it, and I've cried and had panic attacks there several times and no one does much. They didn't realise I was in pain, and when they did they asked if I could still walk across the whole school to get there. People there are constantly saying/doing homophobic or racist or sexist things, and the teachers do nothing! I've been sent home on two different occasions for running out of classrooms because I was so stressed by the teachers not doing anything about what the students were doing to me. There have been several occasions where I've been told to speak up or repeat myself or say something or been called on for a question, even though they know I have situational/selective mutism(anxiety disorder where I sometimes go mute). The changing rooms suck. They give the students no privacy, and I was judged by the other girls for the scars and cuts on my arms. Instead of asking if I was okay, I was accused of having a weapon and bag searched. It's basically impossible to get changed alone, and I feel horrible being in the girls changing rooms just because I'm scared to tell people there that I'm trans masc, for fear of being bullied more. I can't believe I have to keep going here for several years unless I either breakdown and physically can't force myself to go, or I tell my parents to let me change schools. I've seen someone in a wheelchair get teased by so many people on so many occasions. Some teachers are okay, but others aren't.
awful, worst 5 years of my life. Teachers care more about the piercings in ur ear than bullying, racism or homophobia. The showers and toilets have no doors and are mouldy. Most teachers suck ( apart from art ) but yeah if i could of left i would of. It’s hell tbf. DO NOT GO!! It has been in the Hull daily mail for starving students and unhygienic changing rooms multiple times.
I feel like my education at this school was good and I learnt what I needed and most of the teachers are great however in this school the length of your nails or your hairstyles are more important than your well being and mental or physical health, for example, you can't even paint your nails now. Overall though the school is in a nice area to be in and the grounds are great. The only thing id change would be the way the staff deal with well-being situations and the way you may dress or express yourself. You are more than likely to come out with good grades if you go to this school. Another thing that went downhill here was the food. When I first started in year seven I loved the meals however now it's very shabby and most meals are barely edible.
they care more about the length of your nails then they do about helping you get good grades the actual teachers are average nothing special but it’s the senior leadership team that’s messed up they pulled a girl out of lessons and threatened to exclude her because she got her nails done (the girl cut them down and they kept her in isolation anyway)
