If you would like your child to endure endless bullying? Send them here! I was a student there for nearly 4 years and for all 4 years I spent the time begging my parents to find me a new school. The teachers are not interested in student’s welfare and they will believe whatever they want to. They are delusional. All of my friends who have been to Cockermouth school have either left due to hardly being able to stand the school or have managed to stay but the school has totally knocked them. DO NOT GO.
Super strict. They say kids should be able to be themselves but won’t allow anything to show kids personality’s (for eg, piercings, hair colours etc) which is utterly ridiculous!! Majority of the staff that work in this school are strict and unreasonable with the children / teens. Kids struggle too and i don’t think they realise not everyone just messes around for the fun of it. If you have no money on your school lunch accounts your not able to buy a drink or anything (food) more than £2 which is not much compared to their prices
No support for students, one particcular teacher harrased me and instead of removing him they moved me to a diffrent room to work on a computer, safe to say im failing that gcse because of him, teachers are too in your buisness and only care about grades. I have been crying surrounded by 3 members of staff doing nothing about it
Awful place.
Bullying tolerated from "sports stars" and still promoting one of their worst bullies on Twitter to this day.
Abuse of their autistic centre and no care for special needs students.
Worst time of my life. Achieved more in 2 years at Workington 6th Form than my 5 years at that awful place.
the school spends way too much time trying to uphold a status rather than actually caring for the students. I have so many friends that have genuinely concerning issues stemming from the school yet the systems put in place at the school to deal with that kind of thing is very minimal. there are some really great teachers at the school who genuinely seem to care for students and their learning though.
Cockermouth School is perhaps one of the best in the area that I have been to. The behaviour of students is near to impeccable, the school places great emphasis on the community and the buildings are in incredibly good condition compared to some. The majority of the teachers here are also incredibly knowledgable, passionate and use technology well to assist learning. However, over the last few years, as new leaders have joined the school and the school's GCSE results have increased, the school seems to place more emphasis on their percieved reputation than their student's actual wellbeing.
