It’s ok..

It’s ok but the school do not seem to do much about mental health and don’t take it into account in the lessons. people with social anxiety still get made to speak in front of the whole class. Also, they claim to be anti-bullying but yet when bullying is happening nothing is really done. Some students will be homophobic, transphobic, racist, ableist, sexist and just saying slurs in general and teachers take no notice and ignore it

Really lacking in important social education.

The school itself is fine, curriculum, (most) teachers, classes. My issue lies with the practices in place for mental health problems, anti bullying policies and education on pshe style subjects, such as consent etc. Clayton is extremely lacking in these areas, which is very concerning considering how relevant they are. I have also had several issues with staff, some involving name calling to another teacher in front of a class about myself. At the end of the day, I think Clayton is a poor school, it would require minimal effort to make small change to these problem areas (of which I have raised my concern about multiple times over my 5 years, each with no success) but yet nobody ever seems to acknowledge the concerns of students.

My time at Clayton Hall Academy - A summary.

During my time of attending Clayton, most of the hours I spent there were long and miserable. I had so many problems along the way and hardly any members of staff actually even noticed. Throughout the years of 7 - 8, I had faced bullying, by both other kids and "friends". Time and time again I would go to a member of staff to try and get it sorted out because it was impacting on my mental health severely, but nothing was ever done so I had to just get on with it. By Year 9, my original "friends" had abandoned me and I had fully developed anxiety. I would have to walk out of class numerous times a day because I simply couldn't cope with being in a classroom in such a condition. One time I had a panic attack so bad I actually passed out. In the end, my parents and I had to take things into our own hands because I think there was only about two members of staff that actually tried to help me during my time of suffering. Year 10 and 11 have been pretty much the same for me as I couldn't really sit in school through most of it due to COVID. Online schoolwork has been extremely tough, not for the fact the work is hard but because most of the time it doesn't actually work. When we were allowed back into school (early part of Year 11) it was alright, however there was issues with the rules, particularly the one-way system we had to follow which provides a path to classrooms to each year group. The younger years (especially Year 8 and 9s) always cut through our path so therefore social distancing could not be applied because the hallway was too filled up. My general experience at Clayton hasn't exactly been anything special either, as staff don't help with bullying or anything along those lines, there are rules for discipline but unfortunately (especially with supply teachers) staff fail to enforce these rules from time to time. Also, facility-wise, there always seems to be a problem with the toilets. Most of the time, I go there to take a breather rather than actually using them, but there always seems to be damage to them, particularly the doors, the main girl's toilets in the school (opposite room 14) are often closed because of damage. On more positive notes though, the staff are very pleasant, and most are the classrooms are nice to sit in. Lessons are pretty easy, and staff will help you if you need it. However I feel the negatives do way out the positives unfortunately. Clayton really was nothing like I thought it would be, so coming to this conclusion, I don't think I would recommend Clayton Hall Academy.

CHA review as a student

The teaching is pretty average and nothing that special. Even though there are rules for bad behaviour, discipline in class can sometimes be a problem. I also find that students are starting to not be praised as much anymore which is a bit of a let down so that definitely needs brining up again. Due to the covid-19 circumstances, I think CHA have done a good job to make school a safe environment!
