AWFUL! Highest exclusion rate in the county. One of the worst schools for senco around. I was expelled for using a system they put in place for me. They don't care about your mental health or mental illnesses. Ignore anyone who is struggling and drain the best students for a title which they claim "best school in the county" but factually they are 3rd. The assembly's are useless. They talk about mental health and what's being put in place but after a few weeks it's all scrapped. The safe rooms for anyone who is struggling is right next to the isolation rooms which is where the people misbehaving and most likely to spread any personal stuff is. The teachers are good and have very good ways of teaching but the SLT and Senco staff do not run the school properly. They senco officer there accused me of something without any proof what so ever to make her self and the school look better on the behalf of my expulsion. They make it look like their there for you as a parent and then when you actually look deep into things they don't follow things they have put in place. Many kids who could have done great things with the school that had some behaviour problems are swept under the mat to keep the title 3rd best when on a serious note they could be one of the best if the SLT took a step up and actually run the school properly and follow through on the things they say they will put in place.
The overall teaching in this school is fantastic, most of the teachers are lovely and really care about the students. However, the pastoral care coming from the top is extremely weak and the headteacher refuses to believe that there is an issue. There is very little mental health support and excessive amounts of pressure put on the students which causes most of them to struggle emotionally. I believe that if you spoke to any student who told the truth, they would not say that they were happy there. Yes, there are some good grades coming out of Chulmleigh but it is at a cost of the students’ mental health. If I knew how little support I would get from that school, I would have gone somewhere else. If looking in this area, I would suggest that South Molton has a much better care system.
It’s amazing, the school are doing really well at Covid 19 by having a one way system as 95 sinks in the school. The school are also getting students to wipe chairs and desks and then use the provided hand sanitizer in the classroom
