A School's Failure to Support its Autistic Students

My experience at this school has been one of profound disappointment. Despite the school’s claims of being diverse and inclusive, it has catastrophically failed to support autistic students. The closure of the Access Centre, replaced by a shared unit that does not meet students’ needs, has been particularly detrimental. As an autistic student myself, this failure has severely impacted my education and mental health, and has left us feeling unsupported and marginalized. The main purpose of their "inclusion centre" is for good press, not for genuine care.

Behaviour management at the school is out of control, and respect from teachers is selective at best. Instances of bullying and disruptive behaviour are rampant, creating an unsafe and chaotic learning environment. The school’s food is overpriced, meagre, and lacks nutritional value, further contributing to the overall dissatisfaction among students.

Teachers are in denial about the problems and become defensive when faced with any criticisms or concerns. This attitude prevents any meaningful dialogue or improvement, leaving students and parents frustrated and disillusioned. The school’s failure to provide a truly inclusive environment, coupled with poor behaviour management, substandard food, biased treatment of students, false claims of inclusion and unresponsive staff has created a detrimental atmosphere, particularly for autistic students or students with additional needs.

This institution must implement extensive changes to genuinely support all its students. The current lack of sufficient resources and tailored support for autistic students is a significant and muted issue that demands immediate attention. It’s crucial that the school invests in specialised staff, training, and facilities to meet the unique needs of these students.

Parents and students have repeatedly voiced their concerns, but the institution has been slow to respond, if at all. This lack of responsiveness has eroded trust and left many feeling unsupported and overlooked. To truly serve its community, the school must take immediate and decisive action to rectify these shortcomings and ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive.

Moreover, the institution needs to thoroughly review and overhaul its behaviour management policies. This includes ensuring that disciplinary actions are fair and consistent, and that all students are treated with the utmost respect and dignity. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, the school can better serve its diverse student body and promote a culture of understanding and acceptance.

In conclusion, this school is a school of disgrace that does not deserve its funding. It is a place where learning is impossible, where diversity is ignored, where health is neglected, where concerns are denied, where mental health deteriorates and where respect is conditional. Autistic students are treated as burdens and nuisances rather than as valuable and unique individuals. I would not recommend this school in any way to anyone who values education or human dignity. Whose voice do you value more - the voice of a past student or the voice of the headteacher?

Chipping sodbury secondary school

School is a complete and utter sh*t tip. Horrible staff who don’t care about anything you say, horrible to parents and teachers and over all a really bad school. The head teacher should be fired immediately for her actions and so should some other teachers!

Average

Pretty average, although behaviour is rubbish and the school uniform looks bad, the skirts only fit 1 body type and the trousers don’t fit everyone right, also the jumpers get bigger everytime they’re washed and are way too long
