The school is getting worse and worse since a year.
The rules are completly ridiculous. The child gets a detention at 14h45 to attend at 15h00 the same day , he is not aware of the detention, so obviously can not attend as not being aware, then he gets a further sanction.
The teachers are so subborrn, never admitting their own mistakes, they are always right, here are the values of Chertsey High.
Children are far from being equally treated, you are on the right side you are fine (giving donations etc), you are on the wrong side (having a common sense view on the situation ) , teachers will make the child life impossible, to the point of feeling depressed. Avoid this school for the wellbeing of your child.
Teacher ask where your going before entering the building the building is closed off unless you’re using the toilet or going to the cafeteria the cafeteria so small teacher stand next to the toilets you’re always questioned in that school is ridiculous no privacy and not much freedom when it’s break time and lunchtime only recommend the school if you like a really strict school but sometimes the strict can be too much I feel like I’m in a private school where the standards are too high
Feel attacked by teacher rules to strict they definitely prove they have more power over students the way they speak.the uniform has to be perfect it should be a private school they care about you looks too much you have to say where you going before you enter the school building teachers are like security guards it ridiculous !!!!
Unfortunately the school favours heavily those children who’s parents donate to the school. They definitely have their favourites and do not have a fair process for all children across the board. The communication is bad, the teachers are in and out of that school like a revolving door which means no consistency with learning. Also no grasp whatsoever on how to tackle racism. Some teachers are great and it’s a shame they are let down by others who focus entirely on the same children and ignore the potential of the rest.
Very strict, but a nice balance of firm and fair. Amazing teachers. Some reasons for detentions aren't exactly justified, however if you do as you're told you should be just fine. Some teachers are very lenient.
The school is very strict. They'll give you a detention for not having a reading book, a detention on the first week for not knowing your way/being late to a class on the first week. There are some lovely student but there are some horrible ones aswell. My daughter went to primary with a kid who is at Chertsey High, this kid pushed the door on my daughters face and when she started crying, as it hurt, he said "Go cry to you dad, OH WAIT YOU DONT HAVE ONE". So I think the school needs to educate some of their student as one of my daughters friends tried to off themselves.
Despite that there are nice students. Those are always there for you kids. They'll help you with anything.
Now onto the school. I haven't had the greatest experience with the school so far as my daughter was being bullied by this kid and the school did nothing. I had to email the head of year about it and call her. She said she would put a punishment in place but really that never happened. The punishment was him to stay inside at break and lunch, to which never happened.
It's a strict school with horrible and lovely students, but then again it's only been a year since my daughter has been there so I will come back and update this review (if I remember) when she leaves.
Mixed views - as the other review - girls must wear skirts, boys trousers. No accounting for protected characteristics which is surely discrimination - not reflective of what we want to see in our young people. Promoted when opened as ICT strong/google school but no ICT lessons until year 9, no computer science, no afterschool ICT clubs for first intake throughout their whole time at the school, laptop scheme was abandoned. Tracking student progress and picking up concerns seems poor
A fair amount of issues, not terrible but not good
Everything about this school is awful. They’re really discriminatory and transphobic (they refuse to use a students preferred names or pronouns unless they come out to their parents), they still go by “skirts for girls and trousers for boys”, they are awful at dealing with bullying or harassment, and the school has a lot of problems. The food is subpar, the mental health support is atrocious and I've been miserable there for years. The kids make my life a living hell, the teachers have no empathy for me whatsoever, and I feel so alone. I do not recommend this school, it has potential but how they handle things is awful.
