Terrible school, nothing done about bullying, teachers just go with the flow in lessons, nothing planned out, then when your shirt is untucked or your on the wrong tab on a computer it’s an instant detention.
I spent a few years at Carisbrooke, initially it was great and felt inviting and very fresh compared to other schools.
This was until I started to realise the truth about the school, although most staff are lovely and will do anything to help students some of the key staff who run the school give off the vibe that they don’t really care about anything except getting their wage at the end of the month.
As shown by the ofsted report the school has a issue with final grades of students which I can attribute to the reluctance of key staff to make sure teachers are all providing the same level of education to all students not just the ones who get higher grades.
Towards the end of my time at Carisbrooke I felt very unsafe and I didn’t want to go into school. this was due to the system in the school where no preventative measures are put in to stop incidents from happening, Stuff is only done when a incident happens and this is usually a exclusion or a isolation which is a completely unjust punishment for most students and just leads to a downward spiral for students behaviour. Also if an incident can’t be attributed to a person the school will punish anybody that they can relate to the incident, so the school looks like they are actually doing something good.
The new school building is generally ok but it feels lifeless and like a hospital. This is also combined with the building being too small for the amount of students it holds leading to overcrowded classrooms and corridors, to the point where it is difficult to get from one lesson to another.
The school meals are extremely overpriced and all taste like cardboard, also they offer very little nutritional value.
Overall, Carisbrooke is a great school if you or your child are a high achiever and don’t mind poor food and crowded corridors but if you or your child may only just be passing your GCSE’s it is one of the worst schools on the island.
They do absolutely nothing about mental health and bullying, fine parents for taking kids out of school for mental health reasons, show CLEAR signs that they don't give a damn about their students, and only about themselves. Their safeguarding teacher has verbally discriminated against my disabilities (as a student), they have been outrageously rude to my mother on countless occasions and have lied to her about quite a few things. The students, especially in older years, are quite nasty to younger students aswell, despite the fact that when I started at that school they said 'the older pupils are lovely, and bullying never occurs in this school'. What a lie.
They have also failed to meet my needs, and have lied about that kind of thing to my mother as well.
It's a alright school but the teachers need to learn that there are people who don't necessarily ask for help but desperately need it. Like people with anxiety and adhd like me I hate putting my hand up but I need the help and fhe teachers go through something once and exspext you to know it straight away.
The send apartment are great though they help me through a lot of problems and are great people.
Well the teachers really dont care anything but the work there teaching you so even if you tell them you have social anxiety or you really struggle to ask them for help they don't show you any sort of help. I am currently a victim of bullying qnd even after telling the teacher about it thy do nothing.
They do nothing about bullying or derogatory language. They care more about shouting at you then mental heath. A few teachers are the sweetest and that's why I stay. The school doesn't do anything about your mental health just makes it worst. I do like the range of different subjects.
Did nothing about bullying or bigotry. Uniform rules are ridiculous and they take you out of class when you break them which effects learning more than the uniform does. Safeguarding and councillors do nothing but make problems worse, and the mental health support is awful. The new building is cramped and clinical and they didn’t let us eat lunch outside even in the summer
