Been with this school for over 9 years now with our second child about to leave this summer so we are qualified to give a proper review. Firstly to address the results this year- this is mostly the result of a handful of really brilliant children whose parents have invested time with and tutored so it would not be fair to give the school the main credit. The Head mostly pushes Radnor and other Dukes schools and infact with 25% of parents opting out of the 11+ in exchange for an assured place at Radnor, the level of academics has understandably dipped from previous years so again this is the hard work of the children and their tutors showing.
The school is a small one with staff knowing all the children. It barely has any outdoor space which means the boys end up fighting from Year 4 onwards given the cramped outdoor space and the management is ill equipped to handle these issues. However credit to the school for increasing its extra curricular offerings, it also participates in a lot more interschool events which is great preparation for secondary school.
Most of the best staff have left the school after the management changed and the rest left once the new Head was promoted. He is very visible at pick up and drop off and is great at writing letters from his study and publishing them in the newsletter but lacks managerial experience and does not know the children either. He and his management team are not responsive and do not reply to emails or follow up with action on tough topics. The school does not take a tough stand on racism and bullying.
The Year 6 staff do a good job, not very responsive to the parents but are efficient at their work.
The Year 5 teacher is a trainee teacher, inexperienced who used to pick a few children to yell at and threaten, gossiped in class, never replied to our emails but no action was ever taken as the Head insisted the parents were mistaken and she was doing a brilliant job. We have heard this year there has been another issue with the class below us which has been hushed up by the Head.
In short this school is worth it if you are an expat, have a much younger child in early years and know you have to move on in 3 years- as is the profile of a lot of the new families. If you are looking for the old Broomfield School- a child your school can grow up in, be happy and secure, where you as parents feel heard and part of a family then there are far better private schools out there in Kew & Richmond both old and new. If you are looking at a school which aspires for academic excellence then again this is now being pitched as a feeder school for Radnor as we were given the option to opt out of 11+ in exchange for an assured place at Radnor then this is not the school for you either.
I would not recommend Broomfield House School primary school to anyone. It is a racist school that does not give equal opportunity to children of colour. Teachers are judgemental and actually overtly biased. The typical white children with blonde hair are always favoured and awarded. It is not a school based on merit. Do not send your child here.
