DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE

This school is horrific. Yes some teachers are absolutely lovely. However, others are just down right disrespectful. The teachers here love to use the excuse “I’m just doing my job”when they clearly are not. The teachers here will scream at you over any minor inconvenience. For example: the new cover teacher has a love for control and hate for anything she deems quote on quote “disrespectful” which is a lot. Today a student had came to me telling me that when they had said “uhh miss” to get the teachers attention in order to ask for the permission to use the bathroom, the teacher immediately began a tirade of shouting about how the student is disrespectful and rude for interrupting her. When I further questioned the student about this they told me that the teacher was not speaking and that the teacher wanted students to put their hand up and wait for her to notice but the student saw that the teacher was not looking up form the computer and wanted to get her attention. I find this absolutely appalling that a teacher would scream at a child for wanting to get her attention while still abiding by the rules, especially since this was not in private but in front of the students whole class and the other classes in the cover room.
Another issue with this school is the blatant disregard for students health. I have had another student come up to me about having an irritated piercing that was forced out by a teacher because nose piercings are not permitted on school grounds. The nose piercing was a small transparent stud on the nostril that was recently put in but was unfortunately irritated. While eating for this to heal the student had to come to school with it in while treating it. When a teacher saw this, she immediately told the student to take it out and give it to her in an aggressive tone and forced the student to take it out even tho this could have possibilities of harming the student further. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Another health issue is the line up that the school enforced on students in the mornings. This line up has had multiple students come up to me telling me how they’re getting ill from being outside in the cold weather for long periods of times but the school refuses to change this. If anyone would like to see this then there are videos on YouTube showing how the school has been keeping students out in the cold in temperatures below 0 degrees when they said that they would not.

brannel school new rules.

this school is overall okay. it is a nice school but the teachers pick on all the kids for minor things and have made me feel very upset a numerous amount of times. the school used to be nice all thought new rules and staff have made it a more difficult place to be. there are new uniform rules and girls are made to wear trousers or a new skirt that doesn’t match the tie and blazer, i requested for their to be a school jumper we can wear instead of the blazer which would look better with the skirt but i got ignored. school is not a fashion show but i shouldn’t feel insecure going to a place that should be about my education and learning by wearing baggy trousers or a weird skirt, teachers mostly care about what you look like and not so much on your education and staff can be extremely rude although some are very nice and understanding. the pastoral is very good and they are all so nice and helpful with your mental health but the main teachers will do the job for the money and not the kids.

Parent's view

My teens are happy at Brannel School they have made plenty of friends & not had any problems whilst there.
Its generally a good school with some
great teachers but occasionally supply teachers teaching who don't know the subjects especially not ideal when approaching GCSE years.
Plenty of sports clubs offered after school & good opportunities.
Both my children are happy here & doing well academically.

It is okay but not the best school in the universe

It is ok but not the best kids doing drugs and everyone just being overall rude, staff members don't care, do nothing about bullying, my class were once told by a member of staff that we were disgusting for talking, basic human rights (such as letting girls go to the bathroom when they are on their periods) doesn't seem to be a concept. Students are racist and homophobic. Some of the rules are stupid like if you don't do what a teacher tells you first time you get suspended for a week. School dinners are not the best in the world, once my friend had a cheesecake which was sour, they say we get chips on Thursdays and barely ever have them. It's also pretty expensive. If you're ill, like when I had a headache, you get told to drink some water and it takes about an hour or more for them to call home. However, there are some great teachers who are really kind and cool and a good selection of clubs and opportunities, they have workshops you can sign up to for things like gaming, poetry and art, and lots of new opportunities in Brannel challenge like going to court, trying new sports, or working with kids at primary schools, so I think it is average, but nowhere near the best school out there.

Brannel Review

I believe that this school is mediocre at best, as a student I can say this with absolute certainty. If you are a parent looking to send your child here thinking it's great, it's not. The school food is awful, I had a pie that was mushy and pink on the inside. The bullying policy is supposed to be good, when they actually follow it, that is.

Overall, Brannel School is a good school although being very strict on uniform the teachers are usually nice as long as you are doing the right thing. Recently though, there has been a problem with students being racist to my friend, although the problem partly solved (by the students getting suspended for 5 days) I still don’t think it will properly solve the issue. Behaviour systems are also usually fair. There might be a little problem with vaping as they usually do it in the toilets but the toilets are clean. There are rarely any fights, but when there are the teachers come straight over to sort it out. I would recommend sending your children here as there are rarely any problems.

Pupil Safety

I recently had occasion to contact the school as I was concerned for the welfare of my brother’s children who all attend this school. My brother David was subjected to gas- lighting and mental abuse by someone who I consider to be a narcissistic sociopath. Over time this sick individual, who owed Dave everything, isolated him from his friends and family. Eventually Dave could not endure anymore and took his own life on 26th March 2020.

Based on countless instances of this person’s shocking behaviour spanning 25 years and knowing what this control freak is capable of, I genuinely feared for the welfare and safety of his three children. Consequently, I wrote to the headmaster Chris Liles. He did not reply to my email so I formally complained to the deputy head Richards and Board of Governors: Karkeek and Thomas expressing my concerns. Not one of them bothered to get back to me and to my knowledge no investigation has been carried out.

We all know too many examples of heinous crimes committed due to warnings being ignored. Sadly I must concur with earlier contributors, both adults and pupils who stated that the staff and governors have apparently no regard for the mental health of the children in their care.

I welcome your thoughts on the matter - in the strictest confidence.

wouldn’t recommend

the staff think they above everyone else when in reality they are a bunch of low lives who don’t know basic human respect / rights they accuse us of being rude and faking mental illnesses even with diagnosis they don’t care about their students they care more about how they look to ofsted when in reality being a good school isn’t about who’s looks the smartest it’s about being able to feel safe and comfortable being yourself in an environment you can learn willingly at a pace your comfortable in that’s a good school big instead to schools it’s a war of who has the best reputation with adults not students we don’t get to have a say in how we feel because as soon as we voice our opinion we are called rude and shut down we have a voice we should be allowed to say what where and who makes us comfortable or uncomfortable without judgment
