worst 5 years of my life 2017-2022

if you want your kid leave school emotionally traumatised, send them to bsg. i went to bsg for 5 long years that i'll never get back. hell on earth. teachers care more about students wearing coats and skirt lengths than dealing with the blatant discrimination from teachers (and students). we were told that racism was going to be added to the pshe course in 2020..... its 2023 and still nothing. i brought this up to my pshe teacher in 2022, response was along the lines of there are more important things to cover, people should know not to be racist. um yeah not the case babes, people in my year were extremely racist to my friend (korean) as well as people writing the literal n word on the toilets. mental health services are shocking, i personally struggled a lot with an eating disorder and anxiety from year 9 and i felt incredibly invalidated, was told to "walk it off", "have a warm bath" among other things. most teachers are alright, but the bad ones were really bad. one of my teachers went on maternity leave in year 11 and her replacement was the most belittling i have ever met. she called me out in front of the entire class for being a "procrastinator" and that i was "lazy" because i hadn't finished the task yet. everyone in my class could see that she had a vendetta against me, she massively marked down my coursework causing me to get a 6 overall (i was predicted a 9 by my previous teacher) i will die on the hill that it was her fault. i was seen from year 7 to 9 as "weird" (i was just being myself), and in year 9 someone spread tons of false rumours about me, stole my best friends from me and called me the spawn of evil to my face. but ironically, it was her mum who complained and the school tried to force me to apologise to HER when it should've been the over way around. some teachers were incredibly creepy, i was made to feel uncomfortable by two DT teachers (one has now left), and a science teacher. its been over a year since i escaped and whenever i revisit to support my friends in concerts, i have panic attacks outside because all the horrible memories come flooding back. it would've been nice to have a female headteacher who would probably be better suited to be head of an ALL GIRLS school, but no all we had were male heads and teachers who cared too much about our skirt lengths, like why are you looking??? unless your kid is the next albert einstein don't send them to bsg.

Fantastic school.

Everyone is friendly and polite, bullying is kept to a minimum, teachers are kind and patient and genuinely care about the wellbeing of the students. Plenty of clubs and societies, great facilities, especially for music, drama and DT.

my BSG experience

The teachers are mostly really lovely and supportive and you have a good network around you to talk to about anything you wish, however if you feel you can’t handle stress well please consider that this school pushes you to do your very best and gives out lots of homework

I really like it

Ive been at the school for four years and I've really enjoyed it overall. Some teachers aren't great and you have to teach yourself a little but most of them are helpful and friendly. I find it's a really supportive and fun environment to be in.

love the food, hate the curriculum

the canteen food is amazing and they have this system where you can order food for the next day so the queue isn’t too long either. on fridays they serve fish and chips which is absolutely delicious and in the spring / summer they sell various ice creams from 1pm.

however, i think that the general education system could be a lot better. you get a lot of homework - year 7 isn’t too bad, year 8 starts off really hard then gets manageable throughout the year but year 9 they dump as much on you for each subject as possible before you drop ones you aren’t doing for gcses in year 10. there is supposed to be a homework timetable where you get only around 1 hour 45 minutes per day on average but only a few teachers actually stick to it and we end up getting around 3 hours a day. things likely get better in year 10 and 11 as you’re only focusing on the subjects you’re doing for gcse but the school absolutely puts you through hell in year 8 and 9. then you get the weekly assemblies telling you how to have a ‘work-life balance’ and practice self care but never give you the time to actually care for your own mental health.

there is also meant to be a rule of no homework being set during holidays like at christmas, easter and the summer, but there’s always a few teachers that still set things and get away with it.

the pastoral care there isn’t great either - one time i had a day off school because i got really panicked the night before over all of my homework and other things going on in my life and broke down crying, barely getting enough rest to put up with a 7 hour day of learning. then when i came back to school a day later, my pastoral worker pulled me out of a lesson to ask what stressed me out and concluded that she thought i was ‘a bit lazy’ and sent me away with a homework timetable which was absolutely useless because how can i plan what work i do when it’s so unpredictable every day?

it’s also quite stupid in my opinion that they make you do subjects you’re not taking for gcse until year 10, even when you’ve chosen your options in february of year 9 - you’re spending months of unnecessary time doing tons of homework and revision for subjects you’re not going to use in year 10 and 11 and spending less time preparing for subjects you are actually taking. you also have to summer exams on every subject too - i’m currently doing an art exam which i spend hours of my own time completing when i could be learning new skills for subjects i am taking.

the dress code is terrible. if your skirt is even 1cm too short or you wore one tiny ring you forgot to take off or you aren’t wearing your blazer even in 30° heat, you get a detention. with it being an all girls school, it’s also really weird that it’s mainly male teachers pointing out a students’ skirts being too short. they’re now also bringing in a new rule for physical education where you can only wear the tiny skorts or navy shorts which barely cover your legs and not leggings because it’s ‘too hot’ - if it was too hot, the student should be able to make the decision as i wore leggings through all of last summer and was completely fine. many students are insecure about their legs and it’s not fair that they’re being forced to show every inch of them if they don’t feel comfortable doing so.

awful school

Bournemouth school for girls is without a bought the worst school I have ever attended. The supposedly senior members of staff are untrained and unqualified and simply unable to help deal with the complex and fragile mental health of teenagers. instead of helping the children in need the make them feel in and like there issues are invalid and petty .teachers are frankly mouthy and are constantly disrespecting / talking poorly of students to each others and there peers this school creates and unsafe unfriendly environment for children who go there they take happy kids and suck the joy out of them part of this is feud by the fact that minor issues such as wearing coats in class get a lunch time detention and big issues like bulling get forgotten. Some members of staff turn up very late to lessons.

bournemouth school for girls

its alright igs. some teachers are rly bad at their jobs and give detentions for wearing coats but other teachers are nice. you also get a negative behaviour point for needing to go to the bathroom. many teachers also discriminate against u if ur a different race, sexuality etc.

Very good school

A really good school that gets very good grades in their GCSE results; because of the good teaching and the persistency the students share and encourage

A good school but has some faults

A good school which really pushes you to do well. Some of the teachers are really helpful and supportive although some are not as good as the others. The pastoral support team is excellent although access to it is very difficult and is often gained too late to prevent problems. Overall though it is a good school.
