Enginee

A dreadful place to learn

Started doing a engineering course back in 2021 and it was quite good, however upon starting my level 3 engineering it has changed drastically, its not just the engineering dept but all over the college regardless of what course; teachers leaving and the college hiring awful ones, blame being constantly shifted to us and absolutely no respect. We have had 3 tutors come and go who were not good at all, the college brought them in but they couldn't teach us the proper material, so for the last 7 months or so we have not been taught anything which means that we now have to stay until the end of July to complete our work. College expect you to show respect but treat us like we are still in secondary, it feels so frustating esp when most of us have already been at college for a while. The EMaT has so much to offer such as 3d printers, a electronics lab and a lot of machines but no teachers to show us how to use them. It has been a waste.

The only upside I would say to college is that the canteen is lovely, the food is good and tastes fresh and the canteen ladies are absolutely lovely.

There are way better colleges to go to.

Engineering

DO NOT COME HERE

Level 3 Year 1 Engineering was an absolute joke. Underpaid lecturers that were incompetent and left halfway through the year. Told we had to stay until the 28th of July because of how far behind we were due to the lack of adequate teaching. I've been at Boston College for 3 years and the organisation has been absolutely dreadful throughout. Told we had to do 300 hours of work experience and would have a go at us because no workplace would provide that amount. They have constantly tried to shift the blame onto us by saying that we all had missed assignments and that we should "take some responsibility" even though the content that those assignments actually cover we have not been taught. I get that in a Level 3 course there is some degree of self teaching, however when I applied for the course I didn't think we'd have to teach ourselves the ENTIRE course. Buildings did not have air conditioning in the computer rooms so they would reach temperatures over 28c on an average warm day which is way too warm to concentrate.

absolute rubbish

there's nothing much to expect from a college inside boston, to be honest. but if your expectations are any higher than the floor, then go somewhere else.

boston college has done nothing but destroy my mental health, and i can give kudos to one of the counsellors for helping; but we practically had to beg for someone to do something with me because i couldn't bare the thought of staying in college i was that bad.

i've been degraded, humiliated, bullied, invalidated by numerous teachers there, including ones in my course and from math.

i've been assaulted by a student within my class, and the teachers glossed over it and continued to favourite said student, and make me work to my absolute limits.
nothing was ever done about the assault, nothing was ever done when i was stalked, nothing was ever done when i was be threatened and harassed by two boys that went there.

they simply went "thanks for telling us" and would just tell the whole staff room as if my life was a sitcom.

and then these teachers wonder why "she didn't try hard enough," or "why didn't she come in, why is her attendance low." it's because i had to take matters into my own hands and risk the consequences of low attendance and bad quality work, because i simply wasn't getting the support i needed.

not to mention, the tutors are constantly leaving the college. and when the new ones came, they constantly left the room and didn't teach us.

we had a tutor once, that told us to come up to her if we were stuck. and then she left the room and never came back, even though we were all struggling.

furthermore, when forgetting your lanyard i was charged £2? another one of my friends was charged £5. i understand this is a security measure, but asking money off us when we accidentally forgot it, no warning strike or anything is not the right way to go about it.

Alevels

Boston college

If you’re ever wanting to waste two years of your life and cause yourself serious stress and anxiety then this is a great place to do that. The college is so badly managed and they currently don’t have the funding for a head of alevels so have promoted a teacher who can barely do her job as it is. Half the time they can’t afford paper for the printers and the other half of the time your lecturers can’t be bothered to take the time to print out your work for you anyway. They are currently missing a biology teacher so all biology students are teaching themselves but that’s fine because if they don’t think you’ll pass your exams at the end, they drop you anyway because god forbid their pass rate goes down. Really fun information for anyone hoping to do alevels, just play Kahoots because according to Boston college lecturers that’s how you get an A*. Also if you ever need support, might as-well talk to a brick wall because you’re more likely to get a response from it and chances are a brick wall won’t break confidentiality and tell the other lecturers and their kids about your issues. Any year 11 planning on doing a-levels at Boston college, don’t. It’s as simple as that, if you want to make life easier on yourself in an already extremely stressful qualification, go to a proper sixth form because trust me about 80% of students who do the first year of alevels will drop out and do a Btech course instead. A quote that really describes Boston college is ‘if you can’t do, teach’ because none of them have progressed into careers into the topic they studied at uni, instead they sit in a classroom with you for six hours a week telling you how hard their job is when really all there job consists of us loading up a Kahoot! or giving you a chapter from a textbook (that you will have to buy because they can’t afford the proper examination board textbooks) and sipping on their coffee while acting as if they aren’t slagging off students to each other in every which way.
My advice if you do end up at Boston college is apply for unis with low grade boundaries and hope for an unconditional because that’s the only way you’ll make it to uni if you any course at Boston college

Boston college should be shut down

Honestly doesn’t even deserve one star. I study business here and it is beyond appalling. I’ve never seen such horrendous teaching, organisation and tutors who quite frankly can’t be qualified and don’t give a damn about students or the education they provide but I came from a secondary that was graded inadequate. Boston College has destroyed my mental health, my education and proved to me that they genuinely don’t care about students. I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. Don’t touch this place especially the business department with a bargepole.
