I’ve recently experienced this school and the teachers and staff go above and beyond for their students. They have high expectations and strive for those that attend to be the best that they can be. Overall great experience.
This is supose to be a school, who teach children, and teach manners well the lady on reception needs to go back and find her manners, how rude not one good review on here and now i see why, teach your staff to have manners ?
I would put 0 but 1 is the lowest score. As a parent of a former pupil. Firstly I am amazed after an Ofsted inspection. This school isn't on special measures. Bullying is quite common. In every shape and form. God help you if your from an ethnic minority. For example if you Google Damascus you will find its the capital city of Syria. A city full of history and culture. At BSCA its their main punishment facility. Where they put pupils that are disruptive due to a lack of support and understanding. Absolutely shocking. My child has learnt more in a few months at their new school than they ever did in 3 years at BSCA. The school needs a major restructuring from the top down. The schools focus is strict discipline and punishment rather than support and education.
It didn't end up doing so, which is mainly thanks to my College putting my life back on track (The college being bury college. if you live nearby it has my full recommendation) but that doesn't change the fact that this school is an absolute hellscape, and i can break down so many reasons as to why.
First of all, when talking to your parents they completely lie about your grades. My father told me during my final months there that school had repeatedly old me that i was on track and making great progress, and then when he got my grades they were nothing but grades that were predicted to fail. So not only does the school completely lie about your expected grades to your parents, but also expects so little of you behind your back.
Secondly, they not only look down to you, but in my case if you do anything even slightly out of order, even if it's to stop someone else from doing it, you are taking out from the class and don't get any of the learning that you would have gotten from that period as they never look back. This was partially one of the reasons why my grades weren't as high as they should have been.
Thirdly, the school puts way too much pressure on the teachers. i wasn't entirely aware of this until a review on this same site brought it up. To quote them: "Good teachers leave due to poor behaviour from the children, and due to poor planning and bad communication between teachers . Teachers often cry due to so much stress created by the school. Don’t handle bullying well". And from my perspective there was one teacher that was actually brilliant and kept me afloat during the time i was at the school, but they repeatedly told me that they wished that they could do something about the school mistreating me, but they had to follow their code otherwise she would probably be fired.
Another thing is that the school only cares about the money. i was informed a little bit before i left that the school was making an absolute bargain off bringing me up just because of my autism and conditions, which is absolute bogus that they get so much more money just because of a few labels on me that float around and change a few attributes about how i think. Hell, they even talked to me like i was a cash cow rather than a person. absolutely disgraceful.
One of the worst things is during my GSCE's (which they made a huge deal out of) they didn't even help me there as not only di di not get the extra time for my exams, but i also got a scribe that couldn't follow half of the things i wanted to say and oversimplified everything, which ended up costing me a huge chunk of my English grade, going down from what would have been a pass to the equivalent of an E because my ONLY scribe i was given COULDN'T and WOULDN'T work.
The worst thing is that my grades getting screwed isn't the worst part of the school.
The absolute worst part of the school over everything that makes me see anything related to it as traumatic... is the bullying. OH. MY. GOD. if i could rate them anything i want on this website, i would have given the bullying control a -27. The reason why is that i wanted to try and make friends with a group of people so i had anyone to talk to. and what was the result? i was a TARGET. to a FOURTH. of the ENTIRE. SCHOOL. and why is this? well it was for one reason. i played Roblox instead of Fortnite. THAT. IS. IT. and how severe were they with the bullying? Well, here's a list for you. and i mean ti when is ay this, that this list may be quite distressing.
- Threw bricks at me during break times (thankfully none of them hit me, but they got damn close quite a lot of times)
- Catfished my friends into playing along with their twisted games despite not caring in the slightest
- Took my brother's hat with a rare signature that he brought into school and rubbed it out with their own spit
- Ran into my classes during my lessons to interrupt it
- Would chase me throughout the whole yelling to me slurs while also interrupting my walk to any class
and worst of all...
- Setting of a fire alarm DURING my exams with no warning beforehand just so that i wouldn't have any periods to do them.
So for all of that TORMENT that they bestowed and smite upon me, what did they get back from the teachers?
- A group got excluded for a day

Notice an imbalance here? it doesn't take a genius to know that they didn't care for me.
For anyone who feels bad for me and wants to know if i recovered, the first year i went to college my life turned back onto the right track thanks to my college being excellent, like i mentioned before. but the scars that the school left on me i do not want anyone else to suffer through ever again.
Hear my call, This school is not worth your time. You don't want to give it money, You don't want to listen to the people throwing positive comments about it, You don't want to suggest it to others, You don't want to do anything with it.
I think the first google review says it best: "Watched staff member try to drag a boy up the stairs.".
So you may be wondering... Why did i write all of this despite that one string of text saying everything?
Some teachers have clear favourite's (particularly the loud boys who make fun of everyone) and some genuinely care about the students and cate about the learning and wellbeing, safeguarding is poor as anything, asked for counselling as I seriously needed it and didn't get it for a year, when I went back to them asking they said "oh I thought you was already getting the sessions". At one point everything was horrible at home and in school as othere students can be HORRIBLE I went to get help from as many teachers and safeguarding members as possible... ignored the situation even after a parent rang in ab it... ended up in a&e few days later. Ther response was "well we can't do anything about it" Def Dony send ur child to this school if they're not particularly confident, bad mental health, or a quiet student in general. Teachers only notice those who are confident and contribute
This school is disgusting anti bullying is none existent they don’t listen to the parents and reward pupils that bully others. They are more bothered about giving detention to children for small stupid things like not having a care card if they but as much effort into the care and wellness of the students then that would be a start. If your considering this school as an option I would highly recommend you do your homework first and consider other schools
Yes there are teachers that help out students a lot and try to hold there anger in when students are just being completely rude and disrespectful towards them like pulling out phones in classes, talking while a teacher is trying to teach, trying to cause a disruption to get attention or even just being a clown in class. From my personal experience they don’t do much to stop fights or stop arguments. In year 7 and 8 they try to help but then in year 9 10 and 11 you get told to stop being petty or they just ignore what’s going on and act like nothing happened. Teachers can be really disrespectful towards students and parents. A teacher had kicked my little brother out off his class because our mum phoned up and made a complaint about them being disrespectful towards him. A lot off students get away with horrible things like bullying and being disrespectful all the time. The school needs to sort a lot off things out, I've seen people have marks all over them from fights or they sit on the playground and smoke.
Honestly the school isn't that bad like you do have them teachers that are respectful, poliot and they are there to help you from my own experience there are teachers there that had protected me from my old bullies but the school does have issues with un polite teachers as in they scream at you in your face and kick you out off the class for getting a little thing wrong or you have all the arguments and fights that ain't delt with seriously considering they continue to happen and can be same people often. There is issues when a student is being bullied they hardly do anything I know someone who has gone through out the school years being bullied and nothing had ever been done to fix it so it made him do it himself and he ended up getting in trouble for defending himself from them people so he ended hating alot off teachers but yet again he did have one or two teachers that was there for him and helped him out alot and taught him how to deal with it without fighting them. So the school does have things to sort out but over all you have them teachers that are helpful. Some do leave due to students behaviour and the stress they be under. I don't have much hate towards the school as I am a student but there is things I wish for them to sort out to make the school a better place.
It’s vile the way teachers talk to you , the dinners ain’t even cooked properly the plates ain’t even washed properly the teachers attitude is disgusting the way that teachers walk around and scream in ur face for walking down a different corner of a place in the school or if you don’t know the answer you get shouted at or put in isolation
Bolton St Catherines Academy is not the greatest of schools. Not at all. I've witnessed several accounts of bullying amongst the pupils and mistreatment of the students by the teachers. Always a ruckus in the school building with regular fights and untamed riots during lunch & break.
Good teachers leave due to poor behaviour from the children, and due to poor planning and bad communication between teachers . Teachers often cry due to so much stress created by the school. Don’t handle bullying well
