Bishop Ian Ramsey was rated inadequate as a school by Ofsted. Although it closed and reopened as an academy, they are still waiting for their first visit from Ofsted.
There is a very high turn over of teaching staff and teaching assistants leaving the school. Some of the recent departures have being there for a number of years.
Year 4 pupils had 3 teachers in one academic year. There has also been two head teachers over the last 3 years. Classes are a good size, however this is partly because some parents are taking their children out of the school and also because of its past Ofsted rating.
Communication is pitiful. It sometimes feels like the head teacher is the middle man. Most decisions are made by the academy management team and not the school, taking the ownership away.
Although Dojo is in place, (app to communicate with school) messages are often not seen or replied to for a number of days.
It feels like students aren’t particularly pushed and homework is hit or miss and never chased.
So what are the positives.
There’s a really nice community feel, with a “Friends of BIR” set up by some parents. The grounds are incredible and the school does take advantages of that.
There’s some good after school clubs but they are managed by 3rd party organisations, which means that the cost is sometimes high.
Some of the older teachers / members of staff and lovely. Very old school.
