Unless you are severely outgoing and cocky you will not fit in at all!
I did the art and design pathway, and if you’re looking for a way to lose motivation for art then this school is a perfect match for you.
Mentioning no names (I would if i could) there is one teacher who is so blatantly rude and will ruin your whole experience! I was anxious and on edge the whole time because I was scared to do something wrong.
If you’re not someone who likes writing about art this is also not the course for you. A lot of waffle writing is involved (if you don’t enjoy English literature, you won’t enjoy this). They make you analyse your work down to the brush stroke and your intentions of doing so… as if that actually matters in the real world.
They are so focused on making your work innovative and as quirky as possible that you will lose all passion for whatever you love. They would much rather you produce a rubbish piece of art that stands out (but you hate) over a quality piece of art that you are proud of and something that would sell in the real world.
As someone who always strived to go to uni to do art, this school set me up for nothing but failure and i no longer have the drive or motivation to even apply to uni.
Coming from someone who joined in year 12 I would say that after reading this, if your heart is still set on coming to BOA, join in year 10 (if you can) as you will be favourited over the new year 12 that join and will there for have a lovely experience :)
i Went to boa 2017-2019 and it seriously was a amazing school. I was going through a lot in personal life and they 1000% supported me and gave me the time I needed. One thing I would recommend is giving ALL pathways outside opportunities as I remember the Dance pathway received a lot of attention and in school auditions with theatre companies I believe.
Overall, boa has an amazing supportive attitude and I remember EVERYONE singing happy birthday to people you didn’t even know them clapping afterwards. It really was a great environment, EXTREMELY supportive of all genders and sexualities. We love to see it, boa really is my real life “high school musical” experience and I’m so thankful I found it and attended <33
I know it’s cringe, but BOA is seriously my happy place! I’ve loved every minute so far and i couldn’t recommend this school enough. It’s perfect for creative and artistic people and for students who feel they don’t fit in an ordinary (rubbish) school! Everyone is so unique and different - very diverse students and teachers (LGBTQ+, POC etc) All the teachers are so so supportive and they really do know what they are talking about. Although it’s a school, feels like a university or vocational school!
