Benfield School report - DON'T SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!
I advise you to not send your children to this school. As a student myself from Benfield, this school is possibly the worst school in the country. The front office don't answer your calls and if you arrive late into school, you get a call back for it and you have to do it or you get put in BP the next day. The teachers don't know how to do their jobs properly and they refuse to let the students go to the toilet, they only let you if you have a medical pass and it's even worse for the girls since we can't say when we are on our period. They don't allow you to go on your phone if it's emergency and they say that the office can ring your parents if it is an emergency. Please, don't send your children here, it will just make their mental health worse than it already is and make them stress even more.
Problems from day one I could sit here all day and write all the things that have happened over the years. My child was constantly bullied but nothing ever got resolved, instead my child (the victim) ended up retaliating resulting in him being the one who was punished. Required extra support with work, never received it instead branded him as "not cooperating" even though numerous members pointed out his struggled and the need for additional support. This resulted in him getting frustrated and feeling lost during his time here and was suspended every week for sometimes 5 days at a time followed by 5 days in an "isolation" room. This caused him extreme stress, he became depressed and hating life. Fought and fought for a CYPS referral which after 4 years was finally made, or so I was told. Found out it was all false and when I questioned it the reply was "his referral must have been lost". Staff take no responsibility for their actions. Students required to respect them, but they are spoken to like dirt so they will never get it. It works both ways. They lie for eachother, cover eachothers backs and torment these poor kids! Don't get me wrong there WERE some brilliant staff at the beginning who were actually willing to help my son, but when the new leadership came into place and the disgraceful changes started, all of those members of staff left! Children were being taught by supply teachers and the same lessons over and over again, learning nothing! All I ever asked for was additional support for my son's education and all the mentioned above was the outcome. They failed my son. They punished him constantly. Despite his struggles, he tried his hardest during his GCSE exams, but to no surprise, he failed them all. He has now left school and started college. He is now thriving and seems like a totally different person. All his family can see the difference in him. Leaving benfield school was the best thing for him. Wouldn't even give them 1 star! Goodbye and good riddance!!
During my time there, the environment was chaotic, with teachers shouting and students, swearing, throwing chairs, and fighting during lessons. This took away from any chance to learn. While I don’t entirely blame the staff for students misbehaviour, they should be more prepared to prevent these disruptions and protect other students.
On my third day at Benfield, I had PE, but my kit hadn't arrived yet (I had ordered it from the school website). I explained this to the teacher, but she insisted I still participate and go outside. Although I understood, it was pouring rain. I was told I’d face an hour of detention if I refused, so I went along. We stood in the rain for half an hour while the teacher, fully covered in a raincoat, stayed dry. The next day, I stayed home with a bad cold, as did many other girls in my year.
When I returned, I began facing racist comments as I’m a girl of colour. I reported this to staff, but they simply told me to ignore it. In one lesson, a teacher put on translations for me, even though I had spoken to sir in fluent English. This felt completely unnecessary. That very same teacher had told students “if you’re going to vape don’t get caught” unbelievable. Mind you the toilets already reeked of vape.
I never felt safe or protected at the school. My head of year even told us students that no matter how sick we were, we must be at school. It was clear that the staff cared more about attendance than our mental health or well-being.
Absolute disgrace no organise action, kids run this school not the teachers they have no authority over the children at all, this mainly being due to there lack of communication. These kids can’t be getting an education if the school don’t offer a through and comprehensive punishment system that is monitored and followed through out. This school is all about how it looks. Someone wants in there to actually see what goes on. They have text services telling you your child has a csi or callback same day after school but infact your child is actually out of school grounds and making there way home. Complete shambles! All these people commenting on here need to log there parent views on ofsted and get the place inspected. This is our kids education and safety.
Dont go to this school you will feel pain and want to go home like me. The pasta is runny. And there are lots of evil seagulls. The management don't care about you and the office never answer. Its not a fun place. There are children who have the potential to slay but can't cause the school limits their slaying abilities
this school is very bad do not send your child here as the teacher take advantage of kids. And they expect the kids to listen to them, when they dont listen to the kids. They ask for respect but respect comes both ways
The teachers scream in your face for making a tiny mistake kick u out for the stupidest reasons or put u in isolation which will give other kids bad mental health and bad anxiety so glad I have left the teacher are two faced when they say they’re going to sort the bullying out they don’t then when a person comes up to you and tries hitting you(the bully)and u defend your self you will be the one in isolation and the bully gets off Scott free this school has went down hill since the new teachers came there in 2022
coming from my experience the teachers are a disgrace, the way they speak to students ,parents, public and there own STAFF is atrocious. There is also a massive bullying problem that isn't being taken into account it is meant to be a "sport school" yet there is no yr10 football team or yr11 or even a football club there is no sport activities or clubs after school there is no GCSE work and they will lock your children in a room for miss behaving(and only feed them 1 sandwitch, water, crisps and a dry flapjack. Please reconsider
Bad school all the teachers are leaving the kids and teachers are bad worse school in newcastle do not bring your child here they tell you nothing they told us about parents evening the day before it happened they say everything last minute they re were lots of clubs but most of them are gone
Absolute shambles! My children have been subject to every form of belittling from teachers who, in their defence, have been encouraged by the head of the school to do so! Benfield have lost most if not all of its staff over the last year because they disagree with the gastpo like regime that has been implemented! The children now have to put up with triple lessons and supply teaching from teacher who have not specialised in the subjects they are teaching. They also have to stand to attention when teachers enter the room, also before lessons and after breaks. This is but a few points whilst the children recieve a below standard education!
You never get any response from the school to phone calls, emails, or voice messages! They always hold the child at fault and never listen to reason. I have been lied too, shouted at and hung up on numerous times!
Please think long and hard before choosing Benfield as an option for your child.
This school made my children wait outside for 30 minutes which left them with 10 minutes to grab their food and eat. The teachers made them wait outside, since they had left their journals at home, and were expected to wait until the rest of their classes had went in.
I couldt even rate this school any lower if I could,it needs closed down the amount of kids coming out of it with bad mental health a joke and not coz of covid ect but the school treatment and some teachers need reminding respect is earned just like I tell my children!! And lot there lovely teachers have left coz how much its gone down hill
Crap, don’t try to call, leave a message or email at all they simply don’t reply. Even if it was an emergency, the school correspondence is absolutely appalling
Recent changes have led to the school being unable to manage behaviour. Where previously students would have consequences for behaviour, now there is a lack of consistency.
The morale of staff is extremely low. There are often missing students unaccounted for which is a major concern. Staff are treated badly, with senior staff showing no regard for staff well-being.
I have witnessed senior staff raising their hands in a ‘stop’ sign without acknowledging other staff when staff members try to talk to them. An authoritarian management style is in place. Staff turnover is very high with a large number of staff leaving due to the bullying culture in place from the senior leaders. Teaching staff receive no support to manage behaviour and the welfare and safeguarding team have left.
Staff are disrespected on a daily basis. Every staff member I come into contact with is actively seeking new employment.
I am a current student in y11 and this year we are under new management and the school has turned into a nightmare. One of my teachers has worked here for a long time and they want to quit because of how they are treat and how they treat students. First of all teachers aren’t allowed to print worksheets out anymore and weren’t informed of when our mock exams would take place. Teachers have been threatened to be fired if they let students go to the toilet during lessons. At break and lunch y11 are restricted to a small area of grass however no ball games are allowed so we must stand and “not look chavvy” (that is a direct quote from a senior leadership team member) there has been numerous times occasions of children with mental health issues wanting to speak to their counsellor who’s office is on the top floor however the staff won’t let them as we aren’t allowed upstairs during break or lunch and one staff member genuinely said they don’t care that we need a counsellor. Please if thinking about sending your child, don’t. After all their motto, which they’ve mentioned during assemblies, is if you don’t agree then leave and this goes for staff as well. They’d rather have a good Ofsted report than take account for student’s wellbeing and mental health. A school I was once proud of going to is now a place I can’t wait to leave
