Teachers spend all time on uniform when students are struggerling and giveing isolations for uniform with is descriptive to education and permanently excluding children for uniform. Teachers don’t listen to stundent and what they have to say. Make childrens mentor heath bad
Average... can only be deemed good if you're straight, white, privileged, able bodied and not struggling mentally. The school declares themselves welcoming/understanding/safe or whatever but the support they have for really struggling students is hardly even the bare minimum- anyone I've known who has gone to their mental health support has said it 1) was ineffective 2) not a good experience at all 3) recommendations for self help include "calm down, have a bath, drink tea". Then if a student is "too much" for them they just refer them to an equally insensitive therapist. The teachers in the science and art departments are fabulous, sixth form is decent, general vibe is good if you exclude the groups that prejudice themselves against people who are different.
History of the school includes literal pedophilic teachers so bear that in mind.
Discrimination against people of colour is very low which is good but people who are LGBTQ+ and/or don't dress mainstream/dress alternatively are very much targeted. Obviously this only applies to sixth form - years 12-13 - which is when you no longer have to wear the uniform.
2021 student, maths is shocking, if you ask for help you get sent out! All they care about is your uniform, should be allowed to wear school pe hoodies school coats are horrendous and hideous not warm or water proof unless you get the expensive one! They should care more about the bullying and mental health having nail vanish and coloured hair or piercings doesn't affect peoples learning they care about the uniform and always telling girls to pull their skirts down!they do absolutely nothing about bullying! Majority of the staff are lovely and caring
Maths is especially lacking, with a certain member of staff having a very archaic teaching method, and incredibly unsupportive and arrogant towards those who don’t get the work.
The obsession over uniform is pathetic, someone needs to tell them that no one cares if your socks are white or black, short skirts don’t stop learning and tucking your jumper in makes you look smarter, not the other way around.
Overall an ok school, but try and change teachers if you get a certain maths one :)
I finished Yr11 a few months ago and I’d say it’s overall a good school. Some teachers are incredible and go above and beyond to help everyone, and others have little to none in enthusiasm. Really great creative departments & technology available. Teachers often were CONCERNING obsessed over uniform which made a lot of girls uncomfortable I saw. Not very much self express allowed. Maths department is to say the least a-bit sad with most of the teachers looking abit depressed and a very textbook central method. Definitely they have a seagull issue!!! Had a really incredible Tutor and in the end I walked away with decent gcse results. So overall, it’s a good school.
I was 2020 leavers in year 11. Beaminster offers such good opportunities- sport tournaments, skiing trip, french trip, plays and sport tours (barbados and barcelona.)
Teaching is mostly good but some unforgiving teachers in some departments.
Teachers way too focused on uniform which is unnecessary and should be more focused on work.
Head teacher and deputies all very nice and helpful.
I’m very very grateful for Beaminster and all the support and people it’s lead me to.
The school’s extra-curricular activities are good, the school newspaper is an insight into what we have been up to. The P.E is a little outdated, boys don’t do netball and girls can’t do rugby, maths aren’t that supportive however the rest of school is good. The equipment available is very good in technology and the computer suites and teaching quality is good in most areas. I know a few students are worried about the fact that the school on the field side is open to two public footpaths and they are used daily.
Maths department in general is the weak spot for teacher quality, not very good at motivation or enthusiasm for the subject, but in general other subjects are great. Not very good at stopping bullying or discrimination from other pupils, however punishment for class behaviour is strong. Spend too much time on Uniform than our actual mental health at times.
should be allowed to express ourselves more. shouldn’t care about skirt lengths too much as long as the students are comfortable with the length it doesn’t matter. should be allowed to wear blazers and pe jumpers .
A certain maths teacher sent someone in my class out because they asked how to do the work. Also the sex ed is primarily focused on boys and is incredibly outdated. Most of the male teachers give off a pedophilic vibe, which is reinforced by the fact that they are constantly telling girls that their skirts are too short. Also only the boys are allowed to play rugby.
Transferred to this school in Year 9 after coming from a school where I was unhappy and this school helped me find who I was again. I was apart of the SRP Unit (known as “The Base”) because I was autistic and needing special support. The support for people with learning needs is incredible and it’s really sad that the Base is changing and technically shutting down because it helped people like me. Teachers are aware and understanding for students from both mainstream and the Base and handle bullying in the school really well.
