I chose this school because i had aspirations to become a marine biologist, and since Ashmole specializes in sciences, i thought it would be a good fit.
5 years laters, i can say that this school not only killed my love for science because i wasn't 'good enough' to reach their high expectations. They only worsened my depressive tendencies to the point where i was suicidal.
I'm not naturally academic, so maybe picking this school was my bad decision? Or maybe schools should learn to cater to all types of children who enter their doors instead of trying to stuff everyone into a cookie cutter regime.
I stuggle with maths and this school made me feel stupid for not understanding instead of actually teaching me.
The pastoral system is practically non existent. I already had personal issues and when i turned to them in a time of need, they gave me a 'councillor' who i still wonder to this day, how did she even get this job? I've been through countless therapists and counsellors alike, but the one at this school was the worst by the long shot.
In the end my depression got so bad i left the school completely and ended up enrolling in another school dedicated to children who fell out the school system. Ashmole said they would 'be in touch because they are awfully sorry about my situation' my ass, ashmole only cares about the money, why else would the pack in so many kids the walls are basically bursting.
Maybe i had a bad experience? Most of my issues with this school happened because of my odd home life. But i cant lie that this school really only cares about results, not about the mental health of these kids.
If your academically able and feel as though you wont need pastoral support, then this school is perfect for you. If you need additional support in anything ranging from mental health/disabilities of any kind, or struggles with core subjects such as math, i would strongly advise you reconsider your school choices.
