AASA sucks. Don’t come here.

As a student at AASA, I personally would not recommend parents to bring their scholars to this school. I can say from me and my friends own experiences, this school piles an unbelievable amount of stress on us. And no, it’s not just because we don’t like school or that every school simply is stressful. I’m telling you that this school is something else. Secondary school is just ‘ preparing you for college ‘ or ‘ uni ‘ etc.. but reminder. We’re kids. Like I can ask my friends who don’t come to AASA how their secondary school life is. And would you believe it? They don’t have tests at the beginning of the school year. RIGHT after holidays might I add when we should be resting. But no, of course we can’t do that. We have to do evidence . ACTUAL proof that we’ve revised. Mind you, 12 subjects ( before year 10 and 11 as we haven’t picked out subjects yet ) and practically 20-30 words for every single one. And it’s not just that, we’re humans. Minors and children for that matter. Yes I understand that teachers have to come in on a few extra days and also have things to mark and etc. But don’t you think us, as children for one, should have time with family or simply relaxing? Like. It’s as if this school enforced every law known to man and more. Like, this school is all about ‘ mental health ‘ and our ‘ wellbeing ‘ etc , but no. They’re doing the exact opposite of what they stand for. They’re ruining our mental health. You know what happened to me in my case? I left primary. Not the brightest, smart and all etc in my opinion , but I was more or less positive. When i came to AASA? That vanished. The amount of rules and expectations? I get. It’s preparing us for reality. The one you already make us face tirelessly and relentlessly on a daily basis. This school has ruined me and so many others lives. Single handedly. The amount of crap we have to deal with because of you. I get the teachers and all have to do what they’re asked. Staff too. But how do I go to school and am expected to focus when I have multiple thoughts consuming me at once and practically beating me tireless. Beating us tireless. We’re unable to even put our heads down in lesson and if we do? We’ll end up with a correction ( detention ) , and sure yeah. They have this whole new system of verbal correction , correction 20, correction 60 etc etc.. but that doesn’t make it any better. Wanna know why? Either we don’t even get our own individual corrections, teachers immediately skip the verbal correction and so on. It doesn’t make it any better. All this school is is absolute idiocy and misery. They make fake rules and such and systems just to simply bypass that. Oh it’s always just ‘ We’re growing up ‘ , ‘ you’re getting older ‘ , ‘ you’re not in year 7/8/9 etc .. or primary anymore ‘ . Like please. Let us be who we are. We may be young adults but what you have seemed to have forgotten is that we’re still children. I understand that school is a huge improvement from the past. But with good comes bad. And the worst of it all is really showing. If you really want us all to ‘ enjoy ‘ school. Don’t just respond to our complaints with ‘ then just go to another school ‘ or ‘ we’ll just help you find a new one ‘ . No. If you really did care about your scholars, you’d take this information and feedback in mind and actually do something. But no. Rather than taking that in mind, you simply disregard it entirely. My question to you is, ‘ if you really did care about your students, wouldn’t you do something for the better of us all? ’. Don’t just try make a loophole. You dare to complain about us yet treat us in this way? Its not just discipline. It’s mentally abusing us all. And that may be a far fetched and all in your opinion, but simply the amount of time I’ve been here, you’ve shown your worst. Furthermore. 19th September 2024. What the hell. Bringing in a metal detector and using it, patting us down as if we’re carrying weapons and most of all. Strip searches? What the flip. Pulling up our shirts, lowering our trousers and so fourth in the CORRIDOR ? Nonetheless, it’s wrong in itself for what you are doing. But making it worse by practically humiliating us in public? What on earth is wrong with you all. You perceive this place to be some sort safe haven but you unleash its true colours when we come to school and see it’s an actual hellhole. This is no where near where a child can feel safe. All you people ever do is dismiss how we feel and then have the audacity to blame us for how we act? I’d say for you guys to reflect on yourselves, cause even if we need it, you need it more. Take a moment to think about your actions and see how you can actually better yourselves then just continuously telling us to do so. You make us stressed, scared , fearsome and such and just make us want to isolate ourselves from everything. If in all, don’t send your kids here. School had an affect on kids but this has to be one of my biggest regrets. Kids here are crying and having breakdowns relentlessly because of this. We’ve seen and heard it. And most likely have fallen victim to it too. I beg of you. Parents, don’t send your kids here if you want wants best for them.

Horrible school, speaking from experience.

I’m a student currently at AASA. I would not recommend sending your child there. It’s an absolute no. I’ve been stressed a lot due to the unholy amount of work and at the fact they are strip searching and using metal detectors on children to search if they have a phone on them?? In my opinion it’s very uncomfortable and unnecessary regarding the fact that our phones aren’t stopping us from learning, if anything they help. I understand it may be a law but strip searches are too over the top. Also regarding serious issues about mental health and anything else. The school claim to care about our ‘wellbeing’ yet set up tests the first day back to school which means our holiday is only used as a time for us to stress about those exams and focus our time on learning instead of relaxing as we should be. The teachers there are also very rude and disrespectful to students, often stopping the lesson entirely and whenever a student asks them to resume teaching, they either yell at the student or send them out which I personally have seen. I’ve noticed how a lot of my classmates or anyone even hide themselves in stalls to avoid everything. They’re scared and stressed. We all are. Parents please don’t send your child here, even if it’s the last resort.

Don't send your child here.

I wouldn't recommend this school to any parent or child. Most of the teachers/adults in this school can be very dismissive and rarely listen or understand the children's problems at this academy. The students at this establishment can be insensitive and disrespectful towards each other by making offensive "jokes" regarding race, sexual orientation, sexism, colourism and the different uses of pronouns. The school gives us a total of half an hour lunch break and expects the children to be focused and calm when they re-enter their lessons. During lessons, some/most teachers tend to shout or are constantly stopping lesson for what is usually a group of people, which negatively impacts the student's learning and the time wasted by the teachers going on power trips and are constantly trying to prove to the students that they should respect them because "they're getting us 8's and 9's in GCSE". Dismissal at the the end of the day can be very hectic, and has often led to people losing their belongings and having accidents. Keep in mind this doesn't happen ALL the time, but when it does it is an inconvenience to the people trying to leave the school on time. My hope for the future of this school is that they can learn to understand that children aren't always going to be perfect and will not be well behaved all the time. Stop telling the children at this school that their are no sets and that we are equal because you are saying that people who are messing around in class are the same as a quiet children who want to get an education. Your not making the children believe that they have equal opportunities, you are giving them either false hope that they can be good at every subject or you'll make them feel bad about themselves for not being good at every subject. Please celebrate the fact that there are people who have more of a higher intelligence than others and tell the people who don't that they're not bad at learning and should also be celebrated for their achievements. I also hope that they can be more accepting of different cultural beliefs outside of religion such as tradition hair with ornaments, boy wearing earrings, traditional jewellery, ect. This could prove to the students that they are accepting of different people's backround and are allowing the children to express themselves freely. Also, just because you've added the blm symbol to your lessons and slideshows still doesn't symbolise people of colour's experience with race and racist comments/opinions. By only including two races, your excluding others and that makes me upset. Overall, don't send your child to this school because the adults can be difficult and so can the children, simultaneously making your child's secondary school experience unenjoyable. P.S this doesn't happen to all the people just a huge collective of them.
