Archbishop Ilsley

My son went to Archbishop Ilsley in 2013, the school staff were amazing, listened to all my concerns and supported him all through his school years, the head teacher was amazing and Mr Jones who has since left. My son has just graduated this year. Thankyou Archbishop.

Please save your child

If I could give a less than bad rate I would but I can’t lol.
I have experienced racism, bullying so many times, and felt segregated for the years that I have spent at this school. Some teachers actually care I cannot lie, But some of them are so arrogant and rude and make you feel so low about yourself. I’m soon to be an ex student and my parents themselves wish they never sent me to this school until this day themselves. They act like it’s a privilege to be a member of the school and in their own words name themselves as ‘Birmingham’s best school’ but listed on a SA list?

Not a good school

It is not a good school at all because staff do not care about students mental health, education and they dont care weather kids are getting bullied. Also they do not care about racism, discrimination or homophobia, they choose to ignore it or deal with it very poorly. Some of the teachers are even racist and homophobic themselves, i would advise you not to send your kids here. It is also not a very safe school as some of the teachers bully some of the students. For example one of their teachers would insult you but disguise it as a joke. When it comes to food they do not have many halal/vegan/vegetarian options.
When it comes to appearaces they will judge you for example some girls roll their skirts up because they dont like it long and they will say “do you roll your skirt up just to impress a boy” but thats not the case its so girls can feel comftable and secure about themselves. There are also many uncontrolled men as teachers there because on a non uniform day a girl was wearing biker shorts and a male teacher was like you shouldnt be wearing those because those are inappropriate but where was he looking for that to be inappropriate.

Horrible school

My friend keeps getting bullied

My friend gets bullied here and he has told his teachers and they ain’t done nothing about it . The teachers are all idiotic and so are the people bullying my friend . They have been called by his parents and they still don’t do anything . This is horrendous . If they don’t do something I will personally go to the school.

I do not recommend this school

Little support for anyone with special needs or above average intelligence. Good at covering up complaints. Very low standards. I was told that my child had got a grade (grade 3) in English Language mock so didn’t need any extra support. They totally messed up my son’s gcse results by losing his English paper and refused to appeal Food & Hospitality result, where they had clearly made a mistake with the marking.

Please do not send your kids here

I’ve given this school the benefit of the doubt for years because of covid, but I can honestly say that this school is terrible. I’m a student in my last year of this school, and I cannot wait to leave. From the year I started to now, I have honestly never seen anything good happen with this school. Here are some examples:
- The place is falling apart, no heating in some buildings and the toilets are disgusting.
- Nothing happens to the children that constantly play up and divert others from education, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, they do not care.
- Heads Of House staff are so rude to students, it’s basic human rights, how hard is it to be nice towards a student?
- Head Teacher has no idea what she’s doing, and has barely maintained a safe environment throughout covid, for example, there’s been a massive outbreak in covid cases in my year group, none of us have been sent home for testing.
- I (and many, MANY other students) have been struggling with mental health for years and since we have been at school, we haven’t been supported by a single teacher, and kids who make it hard for us with bad mental health do not make recovery easier, and they do not get ‘punished’ for it.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not ALL teachers, but it’s the majority of them and everyone is sick of it. They do absolutely nothing to ‘help’ or ‘support’ us, as much as they say they do.

Literal hell.

Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, as a student, please do NOT send your children here. The teachers higher up in the system do not care about your children or their education. There are a few teachers that will practically bully the students for grades, the way they decide to dress, or anything remotely different about them. Some people I know said that two teachers said that her hair was "horrendous" and "multicoloured", for having it dyed a ginger colour with different tones of orange and red that had accidentally happened because of the hair dye. They said her hair was an unnatural colour. As she walked off, one of the teachers said to the other "seriously, what is her hair?", and the other one said "it's all the quiet kids thinking they can get away with doing stuff like this". They do not allow your child to express individuality, which was quite literally stated by another teacher up in the higher department. They cannot deal with bullying, racism, homophobia or any type of discrimination. It's a god awful school. The students who are targeted by an act of racism or homophobia etc etc are punished by isolation, instead of the teachers trying to actually help the student. Don't get me wrong, some teachers are actually likeable, and can teach, but most of them could not care less about a students mental health.

The students are twice as bad. I can honestly say that this school, and the people within it have been the main cause of my mental health issues. Please, I'm begging you, do not send your children here. I am apart of a good friend group, and are liked by practically everyone in my year group, but it doesn't change the fact that the students can be awful towards one another. All of my friends suffer with problems due to this school.

Absolutely terrible

The school doesn’t care about discrimination on any grounds teachers will stand there and ignore it completely. Very few actually care about what happens.
