School is horrible! They care about uniform and publicity more than the children’s mental health. The English department is also very poor, it took me 6 months to get a permanent teacher and we had substitutes who used their phones the whole lesson and were clueless. The favouritism in this school is also horrendous. If a teacher dosen’t you, they will move you up to the top set ;totally ignoring your work quality and the effort you put into the subject. But if the teacher does like you, you will get moved up, no matter how poor your work is. The food is disgusting. The chicken is slimy, not properly cooked and there is even blood in it sometimes. Food tech department is very unhygienic, staff do not monitor the students to make sure they have washed their hands and they make us cook with dirty pots. They confiscate things and throw them away or never give them back. Overall this school is very bad do not send your children here!
Having worked there for 5 years I saw the school change over time.
It slowly became a difficult place to work and hard to be a happy member of staff.
Felt targeted until I left.... Such a shame for a school that I thought I would stay in forever.
Staff wellbeing is not a priority.
The school has too many back stabbing staff. However there are some amazing staff still left but time goes on I fear these will be pushed out like many others have
Catholic ethos is there for the pupils...... Not for the staff.
the attitude towards the children from the teachers is horrible, with little to no care to them. all i know is that they care about how you are presented in public when you are wearing the uniform. theres only a few teachers that are actually pleasant to be around. plus, if they want to care about your mental health, they just bombard you with tests on it and then leave it for most of the time. the questions are quite personal too, asking about how you feel about your family, how you feel when you look at yourself in the mirror, etc.
not to forget a lot of the stuff is overexaggerated, an example is that in the rules, if you wear socks that are anywhere near below your knee or shorter they immediately tell you off for it.
the pressure that is recieved onto the students is immense, with extremely high standards and consequences that can be seen as humiliating in a students perspective. teachers care more about how good your work is rather than how you feel about it; if youre enjoying it or not, or stressed and overworked.
dont even get me started on the favouritism: if youre good at a subject, the teacher would favourite you. and if you misbehave once in the first lesson or another one, youre automatically framed as the worst student in the class and usually targeted by the teachers.
id also like to say how the teachers care a bit too much about your saftey - if youre out after school theyd be everywhere. in the parks, bustops, crossings, etc. yes, it is nice to have someone care about your saftey but sometimes youre mature enough to do some things on your own, and also knowing what youre doing. all i ask for is to not be spotted by a teacher in the evening and be told to go home when im attemtping to spend time outside of school.
the homework situation is actually sad. half of the time, they forget about the homework, and no matter how much effort you put into the assignment, or how much stress you had to go through, theyd probably still forget about it. they also have such ridiculous expectations for you, for assignments to be completed in a matter of a couple of days.
in my opinion, my least favourite part about this school is how over encouraged reading is. personally, i have disliked reading ever since the start of this secondary school. for me, we were told to do a reading record thing, and eventually the teachers even forget about it. why do they want to see how much we read? and yes it is good for your brain and stuff like that, but why is too encouraged?
to conclude this, i really expected better from this school.
I tried my best to find something good in this school and all I could find was a few competent teachers and students, everything else is not so great.
Students are treated really poorly: mental health surveys are taken and whilst seeming like the school does indeed care about you through personal questions, it seems to never be taken into account, even if they are, it never seems to help either. Most things are pressured upon the students as it seems like teachers care more about if you’re fitting their standard rather than if you’re even enjoying anything, homework can be stressful due to the amount you can be given in a week and be expected to finish it in about 1-2 weeks, only for most of the work to either be ignored or forgotten about, dress codes are taken too seriously, something so little can be exaggerated to be a world ending problem and if you’re in trouble for a wrong reason, some teachers will still find a reason for why you’re in the wrong.
I could list about a dozen reasons why this school needs to get better but I’d rather do anything else other than writing about why this school isn’t good for an hour.
In all honesty, horrendous behaviour towards students especially the SLT and the assistant head teachers. No concern for any child’s mental health at all whatsoever, they all walk right past you. The favouritism is at an all time high for many and everyone there is so close-minded.
This school is awful. Horrendous in fact. No self development at all. More like self destruction. Teachers are bias and pick on kids. This school needs some serious help. I hate it and I will not be coming back.
