Horrendous

More bothered about the length of girls skirts than they are about children’s wellbeing.
Genuinely abysmal support for kids with mental health issues. Was being neglected at home at the time, bullied relentlessly from year 9-11, had no friends, an eating disorder and was in a violent and psychologically abusive relationship. I was crying out for help and being made to feel like a burden.
I remember being moved to the front of my English class by Miss Richmond (who I WILL name because she is genuinely a terrible person), as a punishment for ‘not focussing’. I hadn’t eaten in three days. My stomach rumbled and she dirty looked me. Wish I was joking.
Their POD (which is counselling) is ineffective and the counsellors don’t seem to actually enjoy their jobs. You get made to feel more like you’ve done something wrong by asking for help.
I actually remember a teacher (who I won’t name because other than this she was sound), saying ‘being sad doesn’t mean you have depression’, 2 weeks after I’d tried to commit suicide.
Flash forward I have cPTSD and psychosis as an adult, have been diagnosed with Autism and I am being screened for BPD. All as a 22 year old.
All of this could have been dealt with much earlier if me asking for support had just been listened to.

do not recommend

absolutely awful, don't go there. they don't take students with mental health issues or neurological disorders seriously nor do they take adequate care of them. they allow autistic students to be harassed am assaulted simply because of how their brain works. not only that, transgender and other lgbtq identities are assaulted and not given the privilege of a good and proper education because of the fact the teachers do not punish the students who publicly humiliate/assault/harass the gay/trans/other kids. finally, I had heard many, MANY racial slurs being thrown around when I went here, which was less than a year ago so I doubt things have or will change. GET THOSE FEW GOOD TEACHERS OUT OF THERE AND TO A BETTER SCHOOL!!!!!

Problems with Airedale Academy

Disgusting School. They do not support students with Mental Health. They only care about their money and feeling like royalty.
Ever since I have joined, I have been bullied. This is because they allow people to spread things causing me to get scared when I enter the gates.
Luckily, I have friends who help me through the day, otherwise they would have problems with my family.
Please make sure you look at these reviews before joining. They help a lot.
Also, when a student asks for help (based off my experience) the pupil is told that they will be taken care of. However, I have waited for years and not had the help i was told I would receive. This is just disgusting.
They care more about uniform, attitude, presentation, behaviour, toilets; but don't look investigate the pupils with mental health, bullying.
Do not listen to what they say, they are untrustworthy.
The only good thing is some of the teachers, they are very understanding and support you but majority of them don't.

Horrible towards students with mental health.

This school was terrible to me, especially when it came to my anxiety, I hate going outside and that caused me to stop going to school, and all I got told was that I was faking it, doing it for attention and that I'm never going to achieve stuff in life. If they actually worked with me more then maybe I wouldn't of found it as hard to go into school and get the grades I needed. Another thing to note is that during the time that I wasn't going in because of how much i hated leaving my house (which was for about a year before I moved to a different school) I had one piece of work sent home to me, I dont know how they expected me to get the grades I needed but that surely wasn't the way to help.

Some teachers really were a help and they honestly couldn't of done better, they helped me through alot and I'd like to say thank you to them for helping the best they could.

Overall, the school in general need to work on helping students who do have mental health issues, instead of telling the students they are faking it for attention.
